False Hope

A lot of people made a big deal out of the little increase in the stock market this past week. All they are doing is setting themselves up for a big let down. The stock market can go through the roof and it will not cure our problems with the economy. Our problems with our economy have nothing to do with the stock market. Our economy is crashing for a totally different reason. Let look at what the real problem is. First of all our economy is crashing because millions have lost their jobs and no longer have the money to put into our economy they were in times past. That’s the only problem we have with the economy. The only way to fix our economy is to put all these people back to work. Answer this question. Why did all these people loose their jobs? When you answer this question you will know exactly what is wrong with our economy and you will also know the government is no going to fix it. For several years now our economy has been supported by the sale of high dollar junk items that were being produced right here in the US. Our workers were producing these junk items. The sales of these items shut down and the people that were producing them were no longer needed to produce them Why did the sales shut down? Very simple. Run away inflation. The increase in the prices of food, fuel, houses and about anything else you can mention. The workers simply reached a point where they could no longer afford to buy all these junk items. The price of gasoline and diesel fuel going so high was a big player in this. A lot of prices were raised even higher to cover the increase in the cost of motor fuel. The prices that were raised will not go down until our economy reaches a point where people must lower their prices to make enough sales to stay in business. We are in a “dammed if you do and dammed if you don’t” situation. The way the government is flooding big business with huge amounts of money won’t do one thing to help the economy. It will not create jobs and that we must do first. If you own a business and your sales dropped where you had to lay off workers what can you do? The government can give you millions and it won’t help you one bit in hiring workers. You cut your work force back because you had no market for what ever you were producing. All the money in the world put into your company is not going to improve your market. People stopped buying your goods because they didn’t have the money. They still don’t have the money to buy your products. There is only one answer to this problem and that is to put people to work on jobs that have nothing to do with production. Obama said he would put people to work on the roads and other jobs of this type but he will never do it. It was proven during the last depression that this will work but our government doesn’t want to do anything that will work. Try to understand what is actually going on and it will help you to see what we must do. Art

I agree it's easy to stir up false hope over a surge in the stock market. Even during bad economic times the stock market is gonna have its positive spikes and at the same time during strong economic prosperity the stock market will have it's negative plunges. Putting people to work on roads and bridges and other infrastructure will help to give some people a job but you can't put everyone to work on infrastructure. What is actually going on is the federal government is systematically taking the rights and the freedoms of the people away from them and it has been doing so for some time. What must happen is the people have to realize this and decide once and for all to stand up for their freedoms and take the power...which is rightfully theirs...back from the federal government. I see signs of such a movement forming but it has to continue in order to put this country back on the right track, either economically or otherwise. This whole economic mess got started with the mortgage debacle with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, during the Clinton administration. A direct result of government manipulation. A free market economy works best when the government leaves it alone and allows supply and demand and prices to regulate it. Putting people to work on infrastructure is fine and I'm sure right now anybody would be happy to have a job even if it is repairing bridges or paving new roads. But, not everyone wants to do that kind of work. There are people who aspire to be businessmen, and doctors, and teachers, and so forth and the government does not have the right to say, "This is what we are going to put you to work doing." The government needs to cut taxes, eliminate unnecessary spending, manage their own finances and spending instead of self- righteously telling the people that they must manage theirs, and, simply keep their noses out of the economy and everybody's lives. Let the people decide how they are gonna spend their money and what jobs they are going to perform and what jobs are going to be created. The government doesn't have the right to regulate supply and demand and the prices of goods and services. That's what has us in this mess to begin with. Like you said, the government is not going to fix it and can't fix it. It is up to the people of America to take back their rights and freedoms from the government and to take responsibility for those rights and the country. That's what the founding fathers wanted. That is what freedom is all about.

Good post. You're right just road work and things along that line wouldn't be enough but it would be a big help. I remember at the end of the last depression the government stated up jobs. One in this area was called the WPA. They improved mostly dirt roads, built new schools and things like that. There was also one called the CC Camps that worked mostly on public lands building camp grounds and things like that. The CC Camp workers were mostly young men and most of them were drafted into the military at the beginning of WWII. WWIi did more to get us out of that depression than anything else. The government paid a lot of people to produce their war toys. Also most of the men under 40 were drafted into the services to fight the war and that took a lot of unemployed men off the streets. I agree if we ever needed to take this nation back now is the time to do it while we still can. Art

Yeah, Heaven knows we could use some roads and bridges repaired, and putting people to work to do that certainly wouldn't hurt. But, the point I wish people could see is that it isn't the job of the federal government to solve these problems for us. Not if we want to remain free. I guess the only analogy I can use to explain it...and it may not be a good one...is imagine yourself living alone and free in the wilderness and a storm comes along and destroys your home. Do you travel for miles to find someone to give you lodging? Not if you want to keep your independence. You pick up the pieces and start over and rebuild. But we've had it too easy for too long. Maybe this time of hardship will snap us out of our complacency. I saw the Glenn Beck show on Fox News yesterday and he had a special program about how people around the country...people like you and me who believe in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happyness...are coming together...much like they did immediately after 9/11...and are beginning to take a stand for our country and our freedoms and it was very inspirational. He had a mosaic on the set that showed a hand holding the American flag and had the words, WE THE PEOPLE, and the mosaic was made up of what must have been hundreds of thousands or maybe millions of photos that people had sent in of themselves. And he said the photos in that mosaic accounted for only about 10% of the photos that had been sent in. I mean it was a really amazing show. And he mentioned a new website called, THE912PROJECT.COM. The interest in that website was so great that the traffic to the site had caused the servers to go down 5 times. I tried it myself and it was down. That show just showed me that there are still many Americans out there who are willing to stand up for their country. It gave me great hope for the future of America.

I don't think most people are hanging all their hopes on the stockmarket or getting falsely positive. The stock market as an indicator usually bumps up about six months before an upturn in the economy as a whole. What makes you think Obama will not create jobs rebuilding the infrastructure? Also, the reason the government would like to try to help the auto industry is that it is the ONE industry that traditionally has supplied American workers with decent paying jobs that have benefits. I agree with you that the problem is immense and far reaching. I would certainly like to see tax credits that are now give to huge companies that are outsourcing jobs, go to companies that are giving jobs to Americans. I'm not saying that outsourcing will not continue but the extras should go to help American companies employingAmericans on American soil. I don't expect Obama or anybody else to be able to wave a magic wand and change things in nine weeks. It will take time. But I think he is on the right course and we should take hope in every little positive sign. That includes an upturn the All gloom and doom negativety isn't going to help build momentum but a little realistic optimism can go a long way. I don't see anything wrong with feeling good about the bump up on the Market. It's not a solution but it's a good sign.
