Are you expendable?

Do you ever think that life's machinery would work without your help? In times like now, do you feel or worry you are expendable at work or just life in general?

I feel that no one in this world is expendable and no matter how important or apparently indispensable he/she thinks to be, no one is ! Nothing wrong with it also. Or how else we live on even after a great loss! Coming to your post, I do not think i am indispensable. I think there are hundreds of people out there who are excellent. However, I do not fear this. I do not ever feel intimidated by the fact that i might lose my job to them. They are not me after all.

Thanks. I do feel the need to flaunt our individualities once in a while to let them know that we are not them. How are you doing dear? Still inundated?

I'm doing okay. Keeping busy with work and was downed by the migraine the last couple days. Hope you're doing much better, mimpi.

If we do away with our comparisons to others around us, I think we do away with a lot of stress and pressure we put upon ourselves. "They are not me after all." I really like that, mimpi. Keep up that thinking.

Hi anne~I am terribly afraid that I am way too expendable! If I wasn't here on this earth anymore the only ones that would truly miss me would be a very few and they would get over it pretty quickly! Only my two babies Star and Luna would suffer terribly without their momma! They would be miserable forever! I think they might even die too! Maybe my few friends would miss me a little, but their world wouldn't stop!

Opal! No one is ever too expendable. Like you said, Star and Luna (I love this name, by the way) would be miserable and might die as well if you aren't around.

Life does go on and although as humans we are dependant on each other, we get the feeling that what would happen if we were not around. At the same time i never have though that i am expendable in any way. That i think would come out from a sense of insecurity. At work i know my job and i do what i am supposed to. I am expendable just as any one else is. In life , i have a role to play. That role is over a period of time and as long as i can go on. It's not permanent is it ?

We all have roles to fill in. In some other aspects of our lives, we may end up seeming expendable but then in another aspect of our lives, we are much needed and is that cog that keeps the wheel turning. Thanks, alokn.

Right now I am not expendable as a family member needs my care and there is nobody else who can do what I can do for this loved one, at least if there were they would not be likely to do it for free, if you know what I mean. So that puts some pressure on. Oh, well. I'll try not to fizzle out in the middle of things :-)

Oh, drannhh... I hope this family member is on a smooth and quick road to recovery. Get some rest for yourself as well, okay? Take care.

I am always worried when I see machine's doing jobs that people can do. I realize that machines help us, but when we have more machines working then people. I worry that we are going to work ourselves out of a job and into a depression. One machine alone can do the work of a hundred or even a thousand people. That is a lot of people to have no job. Think about all the jobs you know that people could do instead of machine's then think of all the people out of work. Depression solved almost! **Peace and Love get's you through everything in Life**

Industrialization brought with it a lot of great and necessary things... just as it carried along with it negative consequences as well. It is sad that nowadays, workers don't really know which part of the whole machine they are working on. That leaves them little to be satisfied with. Thanks, carpathian.

it can't be helped sometimes i think that way both in life and general, but i think people only get to think that way because of how other people treat them. and when i think of that point i tell myself that everyone has a purpose, no person or anyone at all should make you feel that you are expendable or worthless in any sense because everything has a value a self worth. no matter how small you think it is everyone has a part in this life :D

Well, it was proved as far as work is concerned I was expendable because I got fired from a job after working there almost eight years. And probably in life too. I would never think my girlfriend couldn't live without me and take her for granted. I think it's a mistake for anyone to just assume that they're not and sometimes, people learn to late.

I am sorry to hear about your job loss, marty. I hope you are in the process of getting one that you would enjoy more too. Take care of yourself.

Yes saintanne, the world would certainly not come to a stop if we were not there. It is our ego that makes us think that that we are indispensible and we get puffed up with pride and self importance when we do something that brings us fame. There are many people who are quietly working for the good of humanity and are not concerned whether they are noticed by society or whether their work brings them fame and fortune. If fame comes to them then they accept it humbly and carry on doing whatever they were doing. If fortune comes to them then they utilise it for the good of the people thay are doing their bit. If neither comes they still carry on unconcernedly and go about their work. There are many nameless people in this category and it is they who make the world go round.
