Long post in starting discussion! Do you read them before responding?

There are certain mylot user who uses 10-12 sentences in their discussion. I enjoy them reading and then responding. I always look to respond to these discussions but when I am in a hurry, I tend to skip those, like today I am skipping those because I have less time for today! What do you like, posting long discussion or responding them or both or none? Response would be appreciated!

I like to read long dissucions as they tell a lot about the subject usually.I don't really care to comment on one liners.I think the person that puts lots into a long dissucion should be commented on

The one who invests more time, should be given priority. I also like to respond to them first who gave long response to me.

i usually read most of the discussions if have time ... but responds only those which catches my interest and it really doesn't matter me the length of a discussion. Being descriptive is good while putting your discussions but the matter should be more important.

Key is to be patient and keep yourself away from politics and religious topic. These topic may reduce your ratings. Be active and try to add comments to your friends response to your discussion. This will increase the chance of you getting more + ratings. I hope this would work great for you.

ANSWERING BY PARAGRAPH I like much long posted new discussion, because it is already like an e-book for outsiders to read as well as for my own e-collection. What I can guess, only 1% among myLot members are really enjoy reading book or any related reading materials. I will answer or response to their discussion by referring; paragraph-to-paragraph. My conclusion: I love long "quality" post with high DIW(Discipline In Writing).

I FIRMLY BELIEVE that you can make it someday, sanuanu. I don't see any weakness on your writing skills. You have done good job in writing, the only thing is you need a systematic technique. The more you write the better writer you become and you have heard that, practice makes perfect. YOUR REFERENCE OF LEARNING Dear Sanuanu, The quick way to learn is to look at one academic book and focus your sight on how it's written. Started from the content list, it flowed its explanation by title with prolific introduction. Next, it flowed down to subtitle and the following. Finally, ended up with smart conclusion. MYLOT IS THE BEST PLACE TO PRACTICE WRITING SKILLS The great beauty of being myLot member is myLot implemented quality take first in its operating system. It is obviously seen on how neat, tidy and perfect explanation on its FAQs, discussion guideline, photo guideline and etc.. So, this is the best place to practice DIW. You can do it, sanuanu. Self-confident is major ingredient into it. Do it and absolutely you get it. MY APPRECIATION Much thanks for choosing my response as your discussion "BR"(Best Response), am honored by your quality comment too. In return, the little me wish you the best of good life, fortune and continued life success. May god bless.

I may not be in your favourite writters at mylot but I am trying to get close to it. I don't come from an English background. In fact I did improve it in last 3 years or so only. Yes, i would like to be a person whose discussion becomes long and interesting with discipline in writing too! By that only, I could make more money from mylot tasks!

It is not often that I choose BR so early for my discussions. Your response really touched my heart and you deserved it for sure. As for learning curve. I am still at the beginning and learning new things every day. The only thing which worries me is that my implementation part is little weak and do have to work very hard. Although people on mylot say that I am good at English but the professionals for whom I work, always say that your language is not upto the mark. One of the reason may be that I stopped talking in this language when I lost my job!

Yeah! I always read the discussion and responses before I intend to reply to it. To be frank, if there are too many responses which need me much time to finish, I just read some of them and know something about what's going inside the discussion. I never reply to the discussion just by reading the discussion title.

I am lazy sometimes and do respond without reading the whole discussion and sometimes get yelled by the author that I did respond without reading the last line of the discussion. Bad habit but I do only on occasions. When my mood isn't that good.

Oops! commented at the wrong place. Anyway! I didn't mean your real age. I meant your mylot age which is over 8000+ and the reason why I said you don't like mylot is because you don't like long posting. It was a joke LOL

yes sometimes it may get tiring to read the whole discussion. i think mylot users should keep the discussion at a moderate level even though i know mylot says that we should be as descriptive as possible while starting a discussion. but the thing is if the discussion is a long one and we happen to like that topic then we will read the discussion carefully and give our opinions on it with interest but if it is not then we tend to skip reading it or skip the whole discussion altogether. i think people should focus on the main points you want to talk about in a discussion rather than going for lengthy paragraphs while starting a discussion.

yes, if one can't make his/her discussion a little smaller, s/he should atleast try to break it into paragraphs. That would help other save time on reading them, isn't it?

Did you every started a discussion which contained more than 20 sentences? I have started one or two but the response from my friends were good and I am thankful to them! If you can see it here: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1970955.aspx

yes very lengthy discussions are not great to attract people for posting responses breaking it down is a good option and keeping it at average length is a wise thing to do. it will definitely save time for mylot users and can reply to more discussions.

Yes, I do like reading long but quality discussions. I have a friend here who writes beautifully and uses very good words. She presents her discussions eloquently and her responses are also very catchy and with much added weight. Though she doesn't normally have many posts but if she does she draws in many responses. Her ideas flows beautifully. But surprisingly she doesn't have good star rating like the others.

I wouldn't want to give her a 'cheap publicity' but the only thing is she is in your friends' list and it is up to you to narrow down whom you think is more striking in terms of quality post. Thank you for liking my avatar. Black is beautiful!

For me, it often depends on the mood I am in for sure. I know if I am in a hurry sometimes I do have to skip those, and hope somehow I will be able to come back to those later. But personally I do prefer a discussion more with a little bit of information or topic that the ones that are like only one or two lines as well. I guess for us all it just is a matter of timing and mood.

It is better to save the link of that discussion rather than deleting them. I am a lazy guy who doesn't like to save the link, sometime I feel guilty about it too! I should make a promise now that I won't delete those links now onwards!

Hi sanuanu, I admit that some of my discussions started always have at least more than 10 sentences of content. I do so for I hope my friends and other members would learn more about my discussions and could help them to have more information to reply my topics. I hope they won’t make you to feel bored when reading them. I have some good friends here like to start discussions with lengthy contents frequently. If I have enough spare time definitely I will read the whole lengthy content totally when I come across any of these, and then share with them my ideas and feeling relevant to it straight away. If I really couldn’t draw out any free time I will skip over and still keep them in the mail box, and I will cope with them later on during my leisure. Happy posting.

I must admit that I enjoyed your discussion a lot. Not because they were lengthy or short but because you were so active in adding comments on them. I always feel that I need to learn a lot from you on how to catch people interest while adding comments too! Till date I have not seen a discussion from you which is less than 8 sentences long!

Just ten sentences or so in a discussion is okay. I enjoy reading them. But if it is much longer than that I get a bit bored and very often skip these discussions. I do not like posting long responses and do not enjoy reading very long discussions either.

Hi, I have seen you twice in my discussions. Thank you very much for sharing your time with me. Ten sentence is already very long. When I was at your age(at mylot) then I used to read only 4 liners and would have responed with 3 lines only! You are going good pal!

I do read long discussions, but they need to have an attracting topic to my interesting, and the opening sentences must be to the point. I scan the whole piece and spot the key ideas. If I feel like responding, I would generally write on one or two points, based on my knowledge and experience.

If people would think about only money then they would definitely not read the whole post if they are long. My tendency in begining was like same, I could not read the whole post because I was not thinking about quality but quantity!

I can see your English getting improved day by day. May be one day you could find you writing long one without noticing. Like I did one day. After writing the whole post, I could realized that it was the longest post I wrote in my life!

I dont think it matters to me whether the post is long or short, as it has to be something that I know about or am interested in..in order to give my opinion or something that I can question about and hope to get some information on. If they are long, then that is ok, and I will read it or I will scan it first and see if I can give a decent response.

I am not that good in scanning. When I scan a post, I tend to miss important lines so, I needed to read it before I can respond to it. Patience is another key! Sometimes I am out of patience also!:-))

it actually depends upon my mood and the availability of time.......if i have lot of time.i try and read all the discussions that interest me and respond to them with whatever i think about that....but if i am in a hurry i generally look for the smaller posts or discussions and read them fast .respond and then leave.............. there are no hard and fast rules as such.........

Hmm, there is no rocket science for making a topic interesting one. Making it long doesn't mean that you are going to make it an eye catcher one. You are new but I have seen you many times in my discussion board. Thank you very much for giving me such an honour of chatting with you!

When I have time, I read them all thoroughly. When I don't have time, I glance at them and respond only to those that really grab my interest. Sometimes I have so much work to do that I end up deleting everything, which makes me sad. They can become overwhelming, though, and it's necessary. It all depends on the work load.

Like today, I have 62 notifications and I have completed only 17 of them in last one hour. I am responding to each one. This 62 don't include the response I get for my discussions pal! I don't have time today, so, i would skip those long discussion!
