Well monday was a stressful day. As you all know I have been layed off for quite some time making my other half the main source of income.. Well just on monday they called and layed him off. With the way the economy is going I'm worried. I don't think that this lay off is going to be good for us in anyway and I can even begin to think how this is going to effect our finances. I'm stressed and in the town I live it's not that big and the economy downfall has hit it. More and more places are downsizing more and more businesses are having problems sustaining themselves. I don't see a very good future unless something happens and something turns this economy around. I have seen shows and discussions where all Obama's spending or as he calls it the bailouts are making the american dollar worth less and less. Doesn't he understand that doing that is going to cause even more problems..? He might be the president but making money you don't have doesn't really stabilize the economy or the problem , does it? It just is a quick fix that is going to cause problems way down the road.. Does anyone else besides me worry about the estate of our economy? Do you worry that the economy is going to be so bad that your family is going to be struggling and your going to have to find not only a first job but two more just to put food on the table? I fear for the future if something doesn't stabilize the economy?

I hate thinking about this but yes I'm afraid. I don't know about the bailout. It's something new and something that many people don't suggest but I'm scared and hoping that it will help things. I too worry about what the American dollar will be worth when I get older. I was joking with my mother and I told her that I wish I had a million dollars but it might not be worth anything by the time I get it, if I get it. Even though it was a joke when you think about it it's really something to worry about. I hope that you and your SO find jobs soon. Make sure that you try to keep yourself busy and keep searching even though it may be hard. I'm lucky (or maybe not depending on how you look at it) that I've never had a first job but I'm scared that my lack of experience will hurt me when I finish college and go out to look for a job. I went to a workshop in school though and they gave some really good advice. Keep yourself busy and productive. Go to job interviews and don't look at it as a waste of time if you don't get a job because it's practice and experience when it comes to the job interview experience. Make eye contact. Have a strong handshake. "Dress for success" because it makes a difference in the way that you are looked at by the employer. It shows that you take the job search seriously. Don't be afraid to speak to someone. They also suggested that you have a one minute sales pitch of yourself. Sum up what you are looking for and maybe what your skills are. I'm condensing a lot of this but I hope that you get what I'm saying. You can use it with anyone and in any situation and it's a good conversation starter. The way that you approach someone is also very important and so is body language because it affects the way the other person will respond to you. If you are open and approachable then other people will be more comfortable speaking with you. Networking is also important because a large percentage of jobs secured were linked to people by family members and other people who hooked them up with the job. This comment is kind of long but I thought that these suggestions were really helpful and true. I have a hard time speaking with people and we did an exercise where we were paired up with someone and had to start a conversation and it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.

It's been a while since I have had a college course maybe about a year but I write kick butt resumes. My resumes have gotten my SO countless jobs that he wanted and the same goes for me when I find a job worth going after. I'm not worried so much about getting back out into the work force . what I'm worried about is there going to be a work force to go to with the economy in the toliet. grrrr. I hate worrying about things but I do and thanks for your response I appreciate it.

I know how ya feel my daughter is layed off . and I get SS SIL only one working and if he got layed off no money would be coming in as none of us have any savings. We counted up the other day we payout about $4,000 a month on bills now thats about what I and SIL make!

yep I feel ya and now I have to look at all the bills and start making cuts on the bills that are frivilous. I did decide that starting a garden is going to be a big help in the long run if you know what I mean .. So at least if I get what I eat a lot of in the garden then that cuts the cost of the food bill down a little if you know what I mean.

I think all or at least most of us are concerned but damn, losing a job in these hard times.... that's bad. I honestly don't know what it's going to take to turn the economy around but I wish they'd figure it out and get to it and quit this "playing around bs" and get it turned around and now! But instead our government wants to diddle daddle with this and that as if they don't know what caused this recession to begin with. Yeah right. I will say a prayer in your behalf in hopes you two find a job and quickly! Have you tried monster.com? I hear that's a great place to find jobs....?

Bella, I can't tell you how sorry I am for the loss of your jobs. Honey, this is just the beginning. If I may say, if you have much credit debt, then just pay the minimum for now. Try to hold onto as much cash as you can for the times when things start to get tough. Now that I said that, keep your head up and things may turn around for you much sooner than expected. This economy is killing us all.I don't know what lies ahead but I'm afraid it isn't good. My hubby is a Highway Designer and has been out of work for coming up on 2 years. Of course I'm disabled so I get my diability but that's not enough to sustain me, much less the both of us. Bella, it's all about keeping the Faith and positive thinking and believe me that's hard to do. I don't know where all of these layoffs are taking us, but it's like being led into the slaughter house. Wow, I'm sorry, I better quit here before you refuse to be my friend. Actually, I truly feel that everything will be alright.Hugsssss leenie

Leenie50, I would never refuse to be your friend over what you feel it's what makes you , you!!But I do have a feeling in my gut that it's going to get worse before it gets better and I have to figure out a way to make sure that we are ok. I think that with some planning and a couple things here and there we'll be ok. But I'm going to start looking to see if anything in my field is open and then I'm going to have to get a couple other things squared away and then I'm going to see where we're at after that. Take care and I truly do understand what you were saying and hugs back at ya.

Well I hope that things turn out ok but they always say life is not easy you have to work at everything. This is just a period of time that I'm going to have to be a little more tighter with money and work through it. I hope that the economy gets better and the recession isn't a bad one but I don't know how it's going to turn out and I'm hoping that we get through it.

I am VERY concerned for the economy and I am struggling to keep food in my kids' bellies. Hubby has been out of work since January and our home is falling apart. My kitchen faucet broke and we can't get a new one so I am left to wash dishes in my friggin bathtub! 0bama's plans to spend massive amounts of money we don't have is not going to help, just make things worse. If you are ten feet in a hole, digging that hole 100 feet deeper is not going to help you get out of it! Printing more money with nothing to back it us just devalues the dollar and results in hyper inflation - they did this in Zimbabwe and now the money there is so worthless you must take a wheelbarrow full of money just to buy a loaf of bread! A single loaf of bread costs more than TEN MILLION dollars there and it can happen here too!

I am also terriefied that we are devalueing the american dollar.. I think that if he would just concentrate on other things that we may be able to figure a solution instead of devaluimng our dollar..

I have to say that our constitution is written so that when the government is no longer for or by the people we can over throw it. It's part of our rights. Got to love that.

I suspect the destruction of our economy and our Constitution is intentional, to get most of us dependent on the government so we will have no choice but to go along with whatever they want to force on us.

I am no economist or politician but I don't think the American people can understand that they are in a recession. The economy isn't going to turn around any time soon...it has to happen in stages. Meantime, you'll have to cut back to bare necessities, which means no new clothes, walking, no take away or dining out. It could even mean no cable or internet. Hopefully the family can stay healthy and well.It is to be hoped that people have an emergency fund to tide them over for a while.

Here in Australia, we get monthly payouts as assistance if you have children - do you get something like that? It worries me to think that you won't have any income whatsoever...do you get unemployment benefit? I hope something wonderful turns up for you....blessed be.

Yep, cut backs are going to happen on my end except for the internet because that is how i have my home phone through the internet with the cable company.. We'll make do we always have. It's just an issue of rebudgeting. Unfortunately with us we didn't have an emergency fund because I have five kids there is always an emergency here or there. LOL!!

It does seem that when it rains, it pours. It pours hard. It seems that everything happens at the same time. I am also going through hard times. My plate is full. I pray every day that something will happen to lighten my load. I watch people around me going through bad times of their own. Our town is also suffering. It would be nice if the economy stabilized. I don't think that is going to happen for a long while.

I don't know how big or small your town is but I do recall that some villages have gotten together at times and have built community gardens where everyone puts work into it and gets plants or seeds and starts the garden for the benefit of the community .. Maybe you can organize that .. It might not be much but if you can cut down the cost on buying fresh veggies from the market and just plant and grow them and get them for the small start up cost of a garden everyone might be a bit better off.

I do hope that your other half gets something soon and I am sure that we will make it ok too! The same ting is happening here too but I hope and pray that those in power know what they are doing - it would seem that experts agree you have to keep spending to stop the economy from collapsing completely! I am really sorry to hear that your other half has been laid off it must be a really worrying time for you all. One that I know the feeling of as my hubby was made redundant 5 weeks ago now, luckily the company have been giving redundancy money out so we received a lump sum to keep us afloat plus they are paying for my hubby to take any course of his choosing to help him back into another job which given the current state of our economy is a pretty good deal. But the worry is still there, I too live in a small town and the work area has been hit hard here and in surrounding towns and my hubby has applied for job after job and got nowhere. I worry terrible about the way things are, I see no light at the end of the tunnel for anyone for a long time to come, I cannot even say "oh its ok I will go out to work instead" I have been unemployed for ten years due to looking after the family, I am due to have an operation and if I work will have to take 3 months off anyway so I am not really good work material am I. Its dark times really.

That is so the truth. I wish that this would be a stable economy and that we weren't heading into a deep recesion but I think that things are going to get a lot worse before they get a tad bit better and I wish that we knew what the rock bottom is going to be. I worry about the value of the dollar going down because of Obama's Bail outs that only help the businesses and not the peons like us. It would do so much better if he could stimulate the economy like making it more accessible for people to get loans or financing for things with a lower interest rate. That would surely drive up spending and help boost the economy. But just throwing the cash to businesses especially giving cash we don't have isn't going to help but offering loans to more people even the high risk people you might have a better chance at stimulating the economy and reducing the hit of the recession. grrr. I can come up with that idea and I'm not a rocket scientist.

Hi and sorry to hear about your husband and you. My roommate got laid-off in Nov.of last year and I got laid-off on tusday the 17. I called in sick and they called me back and told me we had lay-offs and you was affected. I told them jee really I'm sick see if I ever call in again. I laughed and she told me I'm so sorry. I told her it is ok. I will make it some how some way. My son asked me Mom now what are we going to do. I told him well, you can now use my van to go to work as he is the only one with a job. Oh heck he has two part time jobs. Went to my cousins 50th birthday party and there was 5 or 6 of us laid-off we all said welcome to the laid-off crew. They all go fishing. My one cousin said it is relaxing and I put food on the table. We all had a good time sharing on how to save a penny here a penny there. You have a good day no matter what. You put a smile on and if you can't PM me and I will help if I can. WE are strong and proud. or so they say. I know I am.

That which does not kill us only makes us stronger.... I truly believe that I have five kids and I know that this summer I'm going to be cutting back on things that we spend money on but I do know one thing that I'm going to start a garden and get some fresh fruits and veggies from my garden and work on the back of the house and see what I can do just to get the house where I want it. So I'm going to look for a job while I have my unemployment and with my other half he'll get his unemployment and maybe I can get him to go back to school for something that we're always going to need no matter what .. LOL!! Health care. He has a kick butt imune system , me I'm not so lucky I get sick at the drop of a hat. LOL!! We'll all make it just might get a little worse before it gets better that is all.

The turn-around will inevitably come sooner or later my friend. I went through the last economic crisis, and eventually, we pulled through and found a better life ahead for us. Yes, it's a struggle at the moment, not only for Americans but for people around the world, but I'm confident that we have better future days to look forward to. It's just another stumbling block in life. The way through is to try and remain positive, and work towards making things better for you and yours, like becoming self-sufficient so far as most foods are concerned, and buying the cheaper products where possible.... generally cutting back until such times as you can afford to live in the style you're used to again. Brightest Blessings my friend. Sorry to hear your bad news.. it's happening to a lot of people, and I don't relish the thought of the worst part of the slump, but as I say, it WILL turn around and let's hope it's soon.
