I never played baseball in school, but do you mind if I chime in? I love to watch it and have always thought that second baseman has the toughest job.

I played every position except catcher. I think first and third were my favorite positions. I always wanted to pitch but never had the opportunity. I only pitched once in an exhibition game and got lit up. I slumped every year they moved us up a level. I don't know if it was because the talent got better or because I wasn't comfortable with my teammates. I was never afraid of the baseball when I was little but for some reason it sunk into my mind during high school. The kids were bigger, more talented, and I didn't know any of them. I figured I couldn't compete with them. You can't be a shy hitter in baseball. You can be conservative but not shy. Your own mind is your worst enemy in baseball. I don't think being hit by a pitch was my real fear. I was hit by a pitch before and it didn't bother me. I just had to be comfortable to play. Being a shy kid and not good at making friends made it difficult to get comfortable. I should have tried another year before quitting. I usually did great my second year. I even made a few All-Star teams in little league.
