Hello myLotters ! I was a chain smoker at one time, smoking two packs a day, for over twenty years. Then I stopped it. Here is the way I did it, and I just wish to share with you the way I did it. It could be of help to smokers amongst myLotters. With non-stop chain smoking, I started getting soar throat. Oh, it was so painful. I couldn't even drink a cup of coffee. Throat lozenges didn't help either. So, I told myself that I should reduce smoking. I said, "Ok, I will not take a cigarette for one hour". It was hard , but made it. I noticed that my soar throat was a bit better. "Hm ! Well, try again for another hour !!" I did ! Hey, succees, and my throat felt much better. Now, I realized that the whole thing was coming from smoking. So, I told myself "Hey, if you can stay away from smoking for two hours, why not stay away for the day ?". It was tough. Smokers know very well. Needed a lot of determination. But I did it. The next day, I felt really much better. Then I told myself "Now you know what was causing soar throat. You were able to keep cigarettes away for one whole day. If you can do that, why not just keep cigarettes away forever ?". Ok, I decided to do that, and "success" !! Since then, I did not touch a cigarette. Gone forever ! Soar throat also, once and for all, gone forever ! Oh, I was so glad. I was successful in stopping smoking, after twenty long hard years. Hm ! It was determination, nothing but determination ! Dear myLotters, that was my way. If you are a smoker, you might want to try it too ! Good luck to you all !

Congratulations Greenline!! You are the exception...I am 56 and have been smoking since I was 11-12 years old...UGH many times I can't stand myself...I have tried everything out there, even those things my insurance would not pay...so I've spent some bucks here and there...the longest I've been without smoking is 17 days and then because of an upset...here I went again but at least now I only smoke 1 pack a day, not 4 like before! Again, congrats on your success...it's an amazing thing and you should be very proud of yourself! ~G~

Thank you. I wish you success too. You have made a big progress, from 4 packs to 1 pack. The next thing to do is to go from 1 pack to "0" pack ! And, I am sure you can do it. Best wishes to you !

Thank you for the tip. I have cut back tremendously in the past week. My goal is to eventually quit. I will say that your method is actually a good way. I would like to add though....I do not have the sore throat for incentive. I find it easier to go in 2minute blocks and it works for me. I go hours without one. Each day it gets a little easier and I'm smoking less. It is also saving me money and who couldn't use that these days? Great job on successfully quitting!!

I'm so pleased that you were able to stop smoking. I have said so many times that it is a matter of will power and just wanting to stop. I know it's not easy...you have to keep saying over and over that you can do without them. But a strong will and mind helps you get through this.

One way to stop smoking is to have chewing gums or candies with you. You can have it every time you feel the urge to smoke.

Tomorrow I'll have stopped smoking for 3 weeks. I've been smoking for 6 years so it's a pretty big deal for me. Had no problems so far though.

I never smoke, but i will share my opinion in this discussion. i think one way to stop smoking is to think of HEALTH. People in the world knows that smoking is really bad for the health, but most of them still likes to do it. They only stop it when they already diagnosed with lung problems and other serious conditions. I hope they will think of their own health, more time to spend with family and all. happy mylotting, Smile Always!
