I had this great idea a few nights ago. I am sure everyone is aware of Earth Hour. If you are not, they want the united states to turn off the lights for an hour this saturday between 830pm and 930pm. This is a great way for us to save energy, and I really thought this was a great plan. Now here comes my plan. I want to do this once a week. It will save me a ton on my electric bill, not to mention conserve energy. You can always light a few candles and listen to an ipod or something, it doesn't have to be boring! Last night I decided to do this. I cooked a fabulous dinner (lemon pepper chicken, spinach, asparagus and mashed potatos and a fruit salad for after) and lit a few candles. I poured us each a glass of wine and turned off all the lights. It was a romantic candle lit dinner. Why has no one else thought of doing this on a regular basis!? Did I give you a good idea? Might you start doing this to conserve energy? What other ideas do you have for things to do while your lights are off?

This is something I do far too few rimes every year. You've encouraged me to increase the frequency. It never even occurred to me that it could save energy and reduce the electric bill!

I think that turning the lights off once a week is a wonderful idea. Another thing people can do is not use air conditioning in the summer, that's what windows are for :). You can also set the heat in the winter five degrees lower, and invest in some fluffy sweaters or fleece blankets. If everyone did this, its amazing how much energy we would save.
