Man's fist real invention, and one of the most important inventions in history, was the wheel. All transportation and every machine in the world depend it. The wheel is the simplest yet perhaps the most remarkable of all inventions, because there are no wheels in natue-no living thing was ever created with wheels. How, then ,did man come to invent the wheel? Perhaps some early hunters found that they could roll the carcass of a heavy animal through the forest on logs more easily than they could carry it. However, the logs themselves weighed a lot. It must have taken a great prehistoric thinker to imagine two thin slices of log connected at their centers by a strong stick . this would roll along just as the logs did, yet be much lighter a came into being ,and with them the first carts.@~~~

Interesting to know that there are many places in the world where the wheel still remained undiscovered into the 19th century and I suppose even to this day. Certainly in most parts of Central and Southern Africa the sled was used until the early Europeans arrived. Do you think 'how to make fire' can be classified as an invention.

I would say fire would be more of a discovery rather than an invention.

Yes, but would the tools of making fire be an invention? Anyway, back to the two thin slices of wood mentioned above. Maybe the saw needed to make the thin slices might be the breakthrough invention?

The Myans were an advanced civilization. They used math, and letters, and had figured out the phases of the Moon, but they did not use the wheel. There have been childrens toys found which utilized the wheel but they made no use of it. Perhaps they were already more advanced than the wheel. The day will come (in the not too distant future) when the wheel will no longer be used in our civilization. The automobile is already on its way out. Very soon there will no longer be a place to park a car. To be eligible to buy a car in Taiwan, you must first prove you have a place to park it. Many parking garage spaces include a hoist so 2 cars can be parked in each space. In the future all long distance traffic will be via air. The interstate Highways will be cultivated to grow food for human consumption,
