My daughter is 23 months old & is way too independent for her own good at times. She cleans her teeth in the shower every night however, she HAS to do it & no one else. I don't mind her cleaning her own teeth as she has to do it on her own eventually but she won't let me do it properly. All she does is try to brush her teeth but she mainly chews on the toothbrush. I have even tried letting her "clean" my teeth in the hope that she would let me do hers but that hasn't worked... Do any mylotters have any advice on how I can get her to let me clean her teeth so I know they have been cleaned properly?

Getting a toddler to brush the teeth is really hard. I have tried many tricks. I think it may be due to some discomfort. Here are some of my tips in an article: http://www.helium.com/items/1405561-brushing-the-teeth-of-a-toddler

My daughter is 2 and she has been using a tooth brush since she was about 6 months. I handed her one when I was brushing one day and she has been doing it since. She watches me brush and tried to imitate me doing it. You could try showing her while you are brushing your teeth how to get the back teeth and do it right. She will get it eventually.

My daughter does clean her own teeth & when I say to scrub them, she does try but I'm not sure it's still good enough - she does watch me sometimes if she's still awake when I do mine.

to be honest I wouldnt worry about it my daughter is 2 years old, and my son is 5, I just let my daughter clean her teeth herself as the way I see it aslong as shes having a go then shes learning, tho I sometimes get her to clean my teeth and I basically say to her you clean mine and let daddy clean yours and she usually does. It makes a game out of it.
