you guys must have seen the second test match between india and new zealand. india was put in a very bad position due to some very poor fielding by yuvraj singh and also dinesh kartik. dinesh karthik is just a replacement until dhoni gets back but does yuvraj singh really deserve a place in the test team. he is not a wicket taking bowler is test match cricket plays good innings only on flat pitches. he failed with the bat and failed miserably in the fielding department although he is considered the best fielder in the indian team. do you think guys like murali vijay and badrinath should be given a chance instead of yuvraj sing?

Yes why not!he has the caliber to be at the ground and score well in several sessions .he has proved himself not only in T20(six 6's in a single over)and ODIs but also at several occasions in the test matches.also he can ball for a long time so many overs and grab wickets for the team. So surely he deserves to be in the test team.

When has that happened? When has be bowled long overs in test cricket and taken many wickets. He has played a few good knocks but only in the sub continent.

Having the calibre does not help after you step on the field becausd performance is what matters. If a playes didnt have the potential then he would not be picked in the team. Players standing in the queue have the same potential as well.

everyone can't be judged on the basis of the past performance.i m not saying that he has done all that but he has the caliber to do that cause he can ball spinning for a long time..

first of all,i get the idea that u may be from south india or more accurately tamilnadu.let me see. 1.yuvraj is not a wicket taking bowler in test cicket. i agree.he may not be a wicket taking bowler but he got wickets at crucial junctures if u remember the last test match against pakistan where he and kumble shared almost 7 wickets.besides i have never seen either badrinath, rohit or murali vijay bowl . 2.yuvraj missed dollies in this test match. my friend u have to agree even the best slip fielders have missed dollies.dravid, the highest number of catches and a classy slip fielder dropped some dollies in his time. on comparing with fileding, yuvraj, rohit, badri and vijay, there talents are almost equal. 3.he thrashes the ball in flat pitches but fails in other pitches. lets see this is our first tour outside the sub continent after yuvraj made it into the team.so give him time.besides rahit is having trouble even staying in the ODI squad.vijay got a oppurtunity and scored well against australia.agreed.but neither of the batsmen u mentioned havent played abroad against top class bowling.they scored tons of runs but all in the so called flat pitches in india.but u have to agree with me one thing.he is the best hard hitting batsmen in the current indian squad, even better than sehwag.i am not saying it just cuz he hit 6 sixes in an over.but that guy can clear almost 3 balls over the boundary easily but neither of the bastmen u mentioned have that power.true.we dont need such powerfull bating in test but he will be usefull when quick runs were needed. most important of all .HE IS THE NEXT SACHIN TENDULKAR

ok u may not be from south india. i mentioned about yuvraj bowling abilities because u listed in one of his weakness that he is not a wicket taking bowler. next his ground fielding.sure murali vijay did field well in that one test match but u on the other hand have completely forgot that yuvraj has been the best fielder in the indian team.if itsnt for his knee problem,he wont be having this fielding problems.what next?the next match murali vijay given a chance and he drops a dolly,he should be out of the team? if u r going to decide a player based on his lapses on one game,u should have questioned the presence of dhoni when he dropped 2 regulation catches during the one day series. the australian tour was even before he made his presence felt during the england series.he was given the chance to fill ganguly's shoes and he had been doing a ok job so far ask anyone in this mylot community or even the commentators, yuvraj is the best hard hitting batsmen in world today.sehwag is a slogging batsmen but yuvraj shots has the style and timing. never ever compare sehwag with tendulkar.sehwag might be the next viv richards but he never can be the next tendulkar.a slogger can never be tendulkar.tendulkar is known for his style, elegance in batting, aggressive when required and has the positive impact on the team and a bad omen for the oppsition. correct these mistakes

i am not from south india it is just that players from that region are doing very well in the domestic circuit.1.pujara can bowl.anyways india has the bowlers it needs sehwag can bowl as well so yuvraj doesnt need to worry about that.yuvraj can take a few wickets only if the wicket has some turn. 2.if yuvraj is supposed to be the best fielder in the indian team he should not be dropping lollies at any position and he mised a simple run out too so does not say much about his ground fielding either.and you seem to have forgotten the runouts that murali vijay affected to get ricky ponting and micheal hussey out.3.this is not the first tour outside the subcontinent he failed in australia in the test series and even with the experience he is not able to do anything so might as well give the others a chance. and it would be foolish to say he hits the ball harder than sehwag because he times the ball more than power them over the ropes, sehwag on the other hand is all power. and it is even more foolish to suggest he is the next tendulkar.the only guy to come anywhere close to tendulkar is sehwag and even he admits he is not half as good as him and yuvraj has played half his career already when will he become the next tendulkar?? no chance .

I completely agree with you budy, he doesn't deserve a place in test team but thats not because of poor fielding, but because of his inability to perform on fast tracks. when comes to fielding it was just a bad day, and remember he is no a good slip fielder, so captain should not have kept him in that area. Yes Bdrinath should get a chance, i can't say much about Murali Vijay, as never saw him batting. Rohit Sharma too will be a better bet than Youvraj Singh specially in test cricket. Still hope that he performs well tomorrow if given a chance.

On his fielding i will still say he is the best we have got, we can't blame him as bad fielder for just a bad day on field, ya his batting is a concern and will be till he show some consistency.

Nice that you agree with me and yes primarily it is his batting that is not upto the mark but even if he is not a good slip fielder dont you think it is pathetic to drop the simplest of chances when you are supposed to be the best fielder. Even if we leave out the dropped catches in the slips he missed a run out chance too what does that say about his ground fielding. Doesnt the team management always say they want players who are good in at least two departments of the game.

We keep waiting to see when yuvraj singh will in the moulds of an true test batsmen...guess you must wait for some more time for yuvi takin a regular feature i n the tests.....also the point i would make is when the team needs his innings he just disappoints us with low scores....& v have seen that time & again in Australia & nz.....if he can just tighten his technique to the new ball he can earn a permanent place in the tests........

see, yuvraj has just replaced ganguly but in stark contrast has not much fighting spirit in fact he takes things lightly.but there is absoloutly no doubt that he is a genuine talent,if he gets his head right he is the best choice.now lets look at the alternatives, rohit sharma, pujara and virat . pujara is knocking long and loud the best of the lot but still yuvi is a better talent(punjara is also top class) also yuvi has a utility with ball variety of left arm orthodox and his feiling is good, he affects run out (he shouldn't have been in the slip). He needs to improve his away record which is miserable at 12.8 runs per innings....he needs to get his head right seriously but give him ample time.

Pujara has done very well in the domestic circuit and he can bowl as well. Badrinath and murali vijay are good talented players and badrinath sadly didnt get his chance. Yes,yuvraj normally does not field in the slips but you cannot drop a lolly no matter where you field. Add to that his ground fielder wasnt any better he missed a simple run out as well. And if tendulkar can take a good running catch in the outfield with an injured finger then why cant yuvraj singh take the simplest of catches standing in slips.

yuvi is not close to a senior , look at the test matches he has played. and dont we know he is one of the better feilders in the indian side , yes it was a bad day but even dravid drops sitters and he is one of the best in the slip. yuvi at slips in not an option. he is useful in the ccovers he takes blinders and he affects run outs as he did the other day of jimmy franklin. So the suggestion he is a bad fielder is an unfair one in my view just to add to his batting talent is his fielding and to a lesser extent his bowling.

He is not a senior in the test team but he has a lot of experience of international cricket so he should have a fair idea of how to play on different surfaces and adapt to them. He effected a runout in the cover region but also missed a simple run out chance in the same region earlier. Yuvraj is not a regular in the slips but dropping a lollypop catch has nothing to do with what position you are standing in. And you cant field at the same position everytime. Sachin normally stands in slips took a good catch in the outfield with an injured finger. Good fielders take catches anywhere on the ground.

hey why not bro coz i think he is nice allrounder u had seen his balling skills are also been noticed in recent days i thought he shud be in the team

Well bro lack of his batting skills are being noticed hence the question being asked. No doubt he can clobber the bowling on flat pitches but there are flat pitches only in india for test match cricket. And he is just a part time bowler not an all rounder.

there are lot more questions. Other than Gambhir in this second innings, No youngster could transit from one day mode to Test mode. Also Yuvraj's record says he is not at all successful abroad in Test matches. today he played well. But Gambhir, Dravid, Laxman and Sachin placed the foundation stone

yeah you are right they played very well but unless the youngsters are given the chance how will we know and even gambhir took some time to get a permanent place in the side.

I do not think Yuvraj is a test player at all. He just try to hit every ball very hard. He can not play spin well. Test is for those who can play sensible and waiting cricket.

Well yes, The scenario in the second test was really worse, both batsman and bowlers didn't put the required efforts, talking about Yuvraj singh he's a great cricketer, He is very good at batting side, his fielding is awesome, then he can also act as part time bowler, better to be more precise he had always broken many good building partnerships, So he does his job really well, i think he deserves to be in team.

the bowlers bowled very well and had the new zealand batsmen on the mat but they were able to recover thanks to the rubbish fielding of karhik and yuvraj singh. he has not bowled much in test cricket he is only a part timer. his fielding was dismal in this test and batting has been poor overseas.

Unfortunately, his fielding let the indian team down big time. He was the biggest culprit on the field. And his batting was not any better.

Yuvraj singh has never convinced me as a test batsman. I know he has scored a few good knocks on flat batting tracks but he just does not have the technique to survive. Rohit Sharma is a far more sound batsman when it comes to technique. He has failed for a long time in one dayers but I am sure if given enough chances in tests, he can be a long prospect.
• India
31 Mar 09
Look just tell me what is wrong in his technique, i think it is sound enough. the point is his temperament we saw that against england didnt we , yuvi is a better player than rohit no doubt . rohit will have to wait for seniors to hang their boots.

you just have seen the second innings of second test. i think he plays better when he plays natural game just like second inng.he is very talented.he deserves some more chances in test matches.i hope he plays match wining role in the test squad also.

Hello pratik, he always deserve to be in test team, because he is a tremendous player for each format of game. he can change the result of game by his sparkling batting. its true that he is a fast and aggressive player but he has the stamina to stay on pitch for a long time and can make a big score.
@pratik87 (1927)

having the stamina will not help if he gets out early. having the temperament is also important something that he lacks
• India
30 Mar 09
yes yuvi deserves to be in the test team because we can't ignore his batting skills .. he alone is able to put a mass distruction to the bowling side .that doesn't matter that he did not do well in last 2 games .guys like murli vijay and badrinath should given a chance but if the team needs more scores in less balls then only yuvi will help out.and will not .

i dont know if you have been watching indian cricket or not but sehwag is the one who is destructing the opposition in test matches and not yuvraj singh.
• India
30 Mar 09
Yes , there is now-a-days a lot of speculation going around over yuvraj singh's adaptability skills that he is a shaky starter & often falls prey to some good fast balling or to a nice spinner too to some extent but it is known to everyone that once he gets going opposition gets goosebumps about the six sixes he hit & is really unstoppable until he himself makes an error . He after having all the time in the world hasn't been able to correct these flaws in his batting which are costing him & his team dear in such tight situations .He also only gets awakened when the selectors drop him for sometime then he comes roaring at them through his batting & after some fine performances he forgets everything & the storm disappears & he is not there in the scheme of things when the team needs him most. So players like pujara & badrinath who are strong contenders should be given a chance as they are now pillars of the domestic front of indian cricket.

I would go for Badrinath, he is far much better than Yuvraj, at least in the test matches...in the first innings he played miserably...then Dinesh Karthik was a partial induction by selectors like Srikanth over more suited Parthiv Patel...

i dont think with this form the selectors will keep yuvraj much long.he has a lot of potential and has proved himself in the shorter versions of the game but test is different and i dont think he has the strength to cope up with it.also one should keep in mind that he is fulfilling ganguly's place who for most of his career gave tremendous support to the indian middle order.it is time yuvraj lives up to the expectations of us all.
@Mac6999 (705)

Yuvraj does have talent, but ever time he comes to bat in test matches it looks like hes going to get out the next ball. he really should have cemented his spot in the team by now (considering the number of years he has played cricket). I feel that if he is not able to live up to what is expected from a test cricketer he should be dropped by the end of this year (having been given enough time to prove himself). I think the selectors need to put some pressure on yuvraj by recognising guys like Badrinath and other doing consistently well in domestic cricket.
