Is Sachin better than Ricky now that Ricky doesnt have a good team?

I think Sachin is a far superior batsman than Ricky Ponting because Sachin never had good quality bowlers in his team who could ease the pressure on the batsmen. So a lot of the time, his team must have been in a bad situation and relying on him to score. The opposition must hv gone all out to dismiss him,but he still has scored the most runs than any other batsman. If we compare this to Ricky Ponting,in the past Ricky always had one of the best bowling line ups.He could just go out and bat freely because the opposition must have been out cheaply in many matches so they would have looked to defend rather than attack him. So now in the recent Australian team, when Ricky no longer has the best team, the bowlers fail to bowl out the oppostion, and we all know how Ricky is struggling with his form now. He's not scoring centuries in any form of the game. And we all know Sachin is better technically anyways. Does this show that Sachin is in a much higher level than Ricky Ponting? Or do you think they are equal?

I do not remember when it was decided that Ricky Pointing is much better batsman than Sachin.I think Sachin is great. A person who is able to play for country at highest level for 20 long years, is himself a hero. he is good player and it is proven again and again

In case you dont remember,it wasnt long ago that Ricky was scoring hundreds at will.He was the icc best player of the year for two consecutive years (2006 and 2007) and was there in the icc world xi for four consecutive years (2004-2007). In pretty much the same period,Sachin was not scoring much runs and there was talk everywhere that he should retire because he was not capable of performing anymore (he has only recently proved that wrong).Everyone regarded Ricky the best batsman, and many rated him higher than Sachin in that period. He almost caught up with Sachin in the no. of hundreds.Everytime he would walk out to bat you could hear the commentators say "here comes the best batsman in the world".He has slumped in form since the year 2008.

Will write and now the little master is holding a better record and so it is easy to say that he is a better player but even if his counterpart does better than him in the stacks there is one thing which cannot be changed and that is the personality of the player. As a person I never liked the Australian skipper beavers he is way too much and aggressive and a free that he does not have a very good behaviour which suits the gentleman's game. Moreover I cannot forget him cheating when we had almost won the Australian series ended down. He actually cheated to save the match which we could have easily won. Too many decisions going against us and he never showed his true sportsman spirit. So as per minute session as a player the little master is always ahead of the Australian skipper

Both Sachin and Ricky are great players. Just a few months ago Ricky was on a roll and was scoring hundreds like anything. No doubt Sachin is doing well consistently but I loved the Sachin of the 90's. He was aggresive like Sehwag but scored much more and that too consistently. Also Ricky's average in more than that of Sachin in tests and its vice versa in ODI's About Australia, they are a team of great character and can bounce back anytime. So, well I may say that both are legends in world cricket and in their respective countries and we can't compare LEGENDS.

I agree with you and what amount of pressure Sachin has to face from expectations of the people. It is tremendous that still Sachin is cool and calm. What ever he is genuine and when Sir Don Bradman himself has said that Sachin plays just like him, that is compliment which many Australian players might dream of. But this honor went to Sachin. So, Sachin need not have to prove that he is better than Ponting. Technically too Sachin is more equipped than Ponting... So, comparing with Ponting is waste of time.

I have a slightly different view. Did Lara ever get a good team? He was having the worst team of all the great players of his time. yet he managed to score runs. And in a couple of series he manages to score 70% of the runs scored by the whole team. Giving an excuse that Sachin didnt have a good bowling support would be like insulting his abilities and talents. Sachin is a legend and let us accept him the way he is. He has some weaknesses and he found ways to overcome them to be a great. I dont see how bad bowling team mates would result in him getting bowled between bat and pad repeatedly in a series in South Africa. I would say that was because of a faulty technique that crept into his batting during that period. Everyone in the world would agree as a batsman Sachin is much better than Ricky. BUt as a player this would not always hold good. Sachin was a miserable captain. Ricky was good because he has a good team and we tend to say with a bad team even Ricky looks mediocre but then Ricky won a series in South Africa right after being drubbed by south africa in home test. That surely shows character. In short I would say there is no point in comparing the two greats. And it is even more foolish to blame Indian bowlers for Sachins Mistakes.

Hi Kelvin, I just would comment on batting abilitiess of both. Both batsmen are having different batting style and play differently. It's also a matter of time that Sachin started playing before him when there were many furious bowlers available in every team, Ricky is also a good batsman but most of the time got support from his team mates who didn't let him to take full pressure on him while sachin had to bear all because 1 billion people just want him to score.. I love both and enjoy batting of both...

I agree with you on a lot of points and i would like to extend your theory further. Not only did he have a better bowling lineup he also had a much better lineup so he would invariably be under lesser pressure anyways. Sachin on the other hand played a big part of his career with average batsmen in the one day team at least because even dravid was not considered to be a one day batsman and only with the arrival of ganguly did he have a solid support at the other end. But other than that the rest were pretty much average making the batting almost a one man show. And as you have pointed out sachin is technically better as well. And ponting didnt have to face the australian bowling which was way ahead of the rest whereas sachhn always has a very good record against australia. So sachin has always been and is better than ponting.
