Do you still buy newspapers and magazines?

Lately I have been hearing about newspapers going out of business because of the bad economy and that they have also been hurt by the internet. I was wondering if people still buy newspapers or just read the news free online? I still buy newspapers because nothing beats reading a real print magazine or paper. It is like butter and margarine. Margarine is fine but it is not the real thing. I read online on occasion but it is especially hard on my eyes. Plus with a print paper you can read anywhere. Laptops get too warm and are bulky. I still order magazines and will continue to do so. To me nothing beats a real paper or magazine. You can always quickly reference something. You never know if an article will stay online. You might get an error message stating the article doesn't exist anymore. This happened to me on a number of occasions. I will still read online but I must have something real in my hand. I think the future generation will get used to reading online but it is not for me. I collect old magazines and even have my old comics. I don't know how people read comics online. I tried it one time with the cbr reader thing and it was beyond hard to read a comic like that. So what do you say? Is print obsolete or does it have its place?

Well, for the most part I will read most of the News that is happening via the Internet, or here in myLot or by catching the News on TV. But for magazines I have been known to pick up one every now and then to be able to keep up with what is going on in the World as well, as I enjoy reading about people and places. As a want to be Writer it helps give me some ideas on what to write about as well.

No I don't. The print media has become too repetitive to read often. Most reports offer too much opinion and that opinion seems to be parroted and entirely lacking of independence. Any insight from most reporters is severly restricted due to the limitations placed on the media by governments and special interest groups during events in certain locations. The reporters that can be trusted to provide honest accounts of events and insightful information and commentary can be found online through many sources. I enjoy the news and I absorb much more news than the average person. Newspapers and magazines are no longer worth the price to me because I find only a handful of articles worthy of reading per issue. Much of the content found within newspapers and magazines can be found elsewhere or is even offered online, by the same media companies who attempt to sell it print format, for free. With the advent of 24 hour news, there was no doubt that the print media was doomed to fail. Television and online content is agile and fluid and can provide upto the minute information readily. Blogs are prevalent and anyone is free to offer their opinion. There is a reason why newspapers are going out of business. These media companies cater to the marketing industry rather than their readership. The newspapers who fail should not be bailed out. The toady management of such companies deserve to be ridiculed for their absence of spines and for their lack of vision. We no longer deliver messages be horseback, carrier pigeon or by Morse code. These newspapers should share the same fate and go the way of the Dodo.

i was born in 1980's and i think the newspapers and magazines are obsolete. now i am working in a small company and we use the computer frequently connecting to the internet, so i can surf online and find latest news and information that i need. i think it is very convenient, beneficial and free of charge, though watching the computer screen is bad to our eyes. if you buy a newspaper or magazine, it costs a lot.

I always buy a newspaper everyday! I like to know what's going on with the world. I also get a weekly local paper, and a couple of magazines every month. I get mostly gossip magazines (cheesy and uneducated- I know but what can you do!) I get a couple of other magazines too which are to do with some of my interests, but most of those only come quarterly!

Hi, My family still buy newspapers as there are members in the family who don't use the Internet and so printed papers are still needed for them to read news. Its tiring to read off the screen. Its still ok to read short news article off the screen but not comics.

I used to buy magazines and newspapers before i got my internet connection. Nowadays, i only read it thru the websites of the different news publishers. It's more convenient and it saves me a few change that i can put in my piggy bank, aside from the fact that i have also become (unknowingly) a protector of those precious trees.

in the world of internet and computers the information runs too fast to have a chance of being printed on paper. And I think that;s great because this prevents people from listening to the same newspaper or information source and thus becoming dependent on the information given by one or two sources that some time lack objectiveness on the news they present. Internet allows you to find out about an event from various sources so that lies are filtered out in a way or another.

I always purcahse newspapers but never buy magazines - as most magazines are not targeted towards my age group (tenagers), apart from sports magazines. However, I always buy daily newspapers as it's always a good read aha. Although magazines seem to twist and tweak stories to the point where it's completely false, it's very entertaining.

My husband subscribes to a few magazines threw the mail and sometimes I find myself sitting at my computer desk & I'm online while I'm also reading a paper magazine on my lap..LOL I read on the internet news more then I do with paper newspapers. I think the newspapers are great for coupons and to see what is going on locally but I can't recall the last time I have read the paid newspaper. My husband does pick up a free local newspaper and we often read that one, probably because it's free and has a lot of good information it. But besides that we get a good sum of our information online and on TV and when our computer is broke we usually get the news on TV and read more of the local papers more. Me and my husband are information addicts and if we don't get it from one source we'll get it from another. What I do like about newspapers and magazines is that they are more convenient then laptop computers. You can take them to the bathroom, lay on the bed COMFORTABLY and read them and easily take them anywhere to read.I still like to receive catalogs threw the mail ( even though I visit their online store also) because everyone in my family has a chance to check out the catalog and it often results in somebody in my house buying something threw the catalog. We also still buy & read books from the book store or buy books online. I doubt the paper medium will ever die out any time soon.

I love reading and that not only include books but any other print adds. I don't buy newspaper though because I don't have to. I have a daily free access in the office. But when it comes to magazines, I do like browsing through them. At the start of the year actually, one of my resolutions was to have a whole year round collection of a certain magazines and I ended up buying the "OK"-magazine and will continue buying it till December. =) Although in my current job, I could certainly imagine a paperless world but I have to agree that nothing beats reading a real print magazine or paper. I do hope they won't stop publishing mags and newspapers.
