Surely this a a crazy appointment? Shearer has only 8 games left to keep Newcastle in the Premier League, and has no coaching experience whatsoever. I know Shearer is loved by the Geordie faithful, and his achievements as a player command respect, but I really don't see him being the right man for the job at this moment. With relegation a real possibility, surely Newcastle need an experienced manager at the helm?

Well it is all over now. Newcastle are relegated. Really sad. But I was really impressed by the fans. They showed their loyalty to the club right to the very end. Those are probably the most loyal fans. But Shearer said he took the job sort of to clear his conscience that he at least tried to save the club. He knew it was very possible for the club to get relegated but I think he wanted to know that he did at least try to save the club rather than just staying idly by while the club sank.

I think it's a bad move, Newcastle will almost certainly get relegated now and I hope they do!

Shearer is in a no-lose position .. if he gets them to stay up he is a god and if he doesn't it wasn't his fault it was not long enough ... I admire Shearer immensely as a player but he is wrong in his attitude towards what is meant to be the team inside his heart .. if he really wanted to help he should have joined long ago but he chose not to saying he was not ready .. so why is he ready now when they face relegation?
