Nice discussion, Keywords are vitally important for search engine optimization. You can be the best writer and have the best products/services on the web but if you neglect to do at least some basic keyword research your traffic results may be very dismal. There are several good keyword tools free & paid. Everyone is probably familiar with Wordtracker Keyword tool which is one of the more popular ones. There's plenty of other good ones as well. You just have to test them out and see which one(s) work best for your situation. Yes, keyword research is important (but has to be done intelligently and can be a disaster if overdone). Keyword research and analysis is absolutely necessary for any online activity that you are trying to get traffic for. It is most critical if you're running an online business. It will be you're life's bread. The keyword tool I use most is GTrend's Wordtracker which is free to use. Another good free online tool is SEO Book Keyword Suggestion Tool.

The last 3 months I've been learning a lot about this. I got laid off and am trying to find a niche on internet marketing so I've been spending 6 to 8 hrs a day doing this. Your question depends on what you intend to do. If it's something that requires you to have a web page and you are depending on your future prospects to find you using a search engine then it's very important as to the key words you use! However there are lots of other ways to promote your product,E-mails,TE's and other forms like bloging,or forming a members club in ING for instance! I agree with you. Keywords are so imporant when it comes to writing online. I think even here at mylot it is imporant. I had started a discussion about the tags with our discussions, responses, as well as our comments. I think they you should be able to add at least one tag when asked. There were a few mylotters that felt it was not a need so I am now doing a little experiment here at mylot only and not adding tags to see if it effects my earnings at all. So to me I think keywords are everything when it comes to writing say articles or creating a website. It is nice to see that some people are aware of this.
