Where did you get that information? Every Social Security recipient is getting another $250.00 automatic stimulus check in May 2009. http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/03/26/seniors.stimulus/

I saw a few articles about it on the Internet but it is only projected. Until it is for sure I am not going to worry about it. There are enough things to worry about that are taking place now. Who knows what will happen next year. This year SS got the highest increase in many years over 5%.

I think it stinks! They keep taking away from some of the people who need it the most. One thing is sure, I'll bet that the powers that be who issued this to happen got their own raises and bonus's for doing it. Senators and all can vote to give themselves these huuuuuuuge payraises, while the rest of the population has to suffer. There are people on social security who have to choose between whether they can even afford their medicines in any given month, and yet they aren't willing to give a cost of living increase. Everything around us is going up, up, up, yet S.S. will stay the same, which means tightening the belt even further. They say they want to stimulate the economy, hah! This will make people even more likely to NOT spend! (Just my widdle opinion lol)

I did not know that. I'll have to forward this to my husband who does get soc sec. That is really depressing, since the cost of living is going to continue to rise. Fortunately for us, he's now in Canada, and the CAD is still a little lower than the USD, so in a way he already got a raise.

I have worked many jobs in my years and never got a raise except the last one.. after 3 years I went in and did a crying stint and got $100 a month. And I was a main stay at every company... gave 150% when others did next to nothing... I'd ask every year and was always told "we can't afford it" while I watched the company head honchos live in their huge homes and take long vacationsa nd cruises and such.. they could afford it.. they just knew I couldn't afford to quit, so I never got a raise. All these people complaining they are not gettig raises... be glad you had them in the first place.. many of us never got them to begin with. SS is a little different as that is all alot have in older years... but still...they always got them before. Teachers are complaining that they now have to pay half of their health insurance instead of getting it 100% in their contract.. be glad you got it all this time... some of us never had it for our kids muchless ourselves...our choice was we could either pay the high insurance premium or buy groceries for the month... Be glad you don't have to do without completely and know that you can always get it put back into contracts once the economy comes back. Just my opinion.. no offense to anyone...just tired of doing without all these years and now have to that those that might have to start economizing a little are complaining...sore subject with me!

Social Securirty increases are based on Cost of living Increases or COLAS. If the cost of living goes up, then they get a COLA. If it goes down, they don't get a COLA. The Gov. does not expect the cost of living to go up for the next three years, so they say no COLA. Of course, the Oil People have other plans for us, so it will go up greatly in that area. When oil goes up, everything goes up because our whole lives are tied to oil. Those who are tied to SS should start writing now, because the decision is made before Oct. 2009!!! Shalom~Adoniah

Well, for anyone following the News etc. now, this was nothing compared to what they want to do to the Elderly and ones who have worked and now on Disability and getting Social Security, etc. They are saying they are going broke and cannot offer anything and need to cut some of these programs as well. Makes you really wonder when people are continuing to pay in and nothing will be left will we all get a Refund Bonus check to thank us for our time?

I am on disability and I believe that this applies to us also. Next month we will be getting $250 extra, which is cool. I am not going to worry about anything, especially, something that is so far ahead. God is able.

No, I don't know anyone getting soc sec checks. As a matter of fact, in my town people don't use to get money for their old age. It is their kid's duty to look after them.
