Does anyone have any suggestions for killing fire ants? Our yard is infested and nothing seems to work!

sprinkle grits all over the top of the mounds. The ant will take it into their mounds and eat the grits. The grits will expand inside them and kill them...

Go to Lowe's and talk to the people in the garden center there. They have some really good stuff that I bought, but I can't remember what it is. It was made by Ortho I think. They will be able to help you.

Hi. I have a book that has alot of ideas. The easiest ones are- 1)mix 16 tablespoons Ivory liquid soap and 1 cup of lime into 4 gallons of warm water and then pour the solution into the nest. Also if you spray the solution directly on them it should kill them. OR 2) there is an ant bait called "Fire Ant Bait." Place this around the ants nest and they will bring it to their queen, and it will kill off the entirely in less then 3 months. OR 3) Add 1 drop off pure pine oil to 1 qt of water and pour into the nest. There are plenty more remedies if you need further ideas. Good luck in ridding your yard of those nasty critters.

Great! Thanks a bunch! I was hoping for some ideas that didn't involve a lot of really strong shemicals or sprays. I'll try these. Thanks again!

Sure. Like I said, let me know if you need anymore ideas. The book that I have has a bunch of natural ideas for several pests.

I live in South Florida and fire ants are a big problem down here. When I first moved in here they were starting to come into my two bathroom windows and in 2 of my bedroom windows. The best thing to use is ground cloves. Yes, you heard correctly - ground cloves! As a matter of fact there were some ants bringing in larvae in a corner of my window in my bedroom. The larvae looked just like pieces of white rice. Well, I nipped that in the bud immediately! I just sprinkled some ground cloves on the trail and all along the window opening. The ants dropped the larvae instantly and scrambled away. Of course I used toilet paper and immediately squashed and flushed the ants that remained. I did not let one get away into my house. Within 1 day they were all gone and have not showed up again. I think the cloves messes with their sense of smell and they get disoriented. Well, whatever I can tell you that it is an all natural, pesticide free way of getting rid of them and keeping them away. And I think that cloves smell really good too so it is also a room freshener! Good luck and let me know how it goes. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

hi i was told that if you sprinkle down some oatmeal it will get rid of them. i haven't tried it yet but a guy that was working on my neighbors yard was telling me that when ants eat oatmeal it kills them, and that's what he do to get rid of his and the ones that be in his clients yard.

You must find what cause fire ants in your house.. may be there is a garbage or something like that.. if you want to remove the ants you must find the hive, and find the queen.. after you remove the queen the ant will follow the queen.

They're horrible. we haven't always had them here , not sure how they got here. they build huge hills and they have a nasty bite. I have a small dog and I'm always afraid they are gonna bite him.
