Does Gardening Really Save You Money?

One of the ways I had been planning on cutting costs was by growing some of my own food. But then I got to thinking, does it really save you money? I have to do raised beds in order to grow anything here, plus the cost of seeds, soil etc. Does your garden save you money? Is the savings worth the upfront costs? What are your thoughts?

My Parents do garden vegetables, and small fruits. It does appear to save them money. They really did not spend to much getting started either. And you can buy seeds for really cheap at walmart. But for my parents they tend to their garden so to speak everyday, and it's grown quite a few things such as sun flowers, green beans, cucumbers, tomatoes ahh i think of the other ones..But I think you should give it a try if you want.

i'm strongly agree that gardening can save our money, release tension and make us more healthy. Of course we must have some investment to buy seeds and fertilizer but later on we can recycle the seeds.

Very true, gardening is a work-out! Especially if your garden is a distance from the house or rather large. Thanks for your response!

I do think that gardening is better, even if it does cost you some money. If you do not spray the crops with poisons, then the food that you grow will be all natural and better for your health without all of the poisons, msg, and other junk that they put in our foods at the grocery store to make our food taste better, llok better, and last longer upon the store shelves. How much money do you value your health and the health of your family? Can you put a price tag upon it? Get oup the shovel and the seeds and grow some of your own food.

Oh, I definitely agree with you on the pesticides and junk that they throw onto our "fresh" produce. I buy most of my produce from local farms to combat that. Thanks for your response! :)

A lot of people think that you cant save money by gardening, but I beg to differ. I started a garden indoors, so I only bought a small amount of soil, and I got all of my pots at the dollar store. Herbs grow well indoors, adn you can dry them for the winter. I wish you the best of luck!

Thanks! Herbs are definitely on the list for growing, as I use a ton of them. I'd be growing them regardless of whether I do the rest of the garden or not. Thanks for your response! :)
