I have the Mirena IUD and haven't had any problems. I still have a period, which I was hoping would go away lol, but I haven't had any issues. If you're having problems you should go visit your doctor and have them check it out. The Mirena needs to be replaced every five years. How long have you had yours? It's one of the safest IUD's on the market today. Namaste-Anora

I've only had mine since November.... I am getting it taken out on the 8th....I had heard that it was the safest as well until I started having these crazy side effects... Apparently the Canadian mediacal pamphlet that was released listed all of the side effects where as the US pamphlet did not... here is a link of a whole lot of women experincing side effects... if you do exprience any of these I recommend that you talk to your doctor about them... www.medications.com/se/mirena

I researched the Mirena extensively in journal articles before I even decided to get it and haven't been convinced of the side-effects. I've not experienced anything and I've had my since September of last year. It's one of the safest ones around. Namaste-Anora

Oh lord I had problems galore with mine. I got mine put in after my DD was born in July of last year. I had gone for my post-pregnancy checkup and decided rather than have my DH give me my Depo shots every 3rd month, I'd try the Mirena. Got fitted and at first, it was okay. Then the fight started... Had it out in November and subsequent periods were hell. It hurt like heck to get it out, too. I went through a c-section and a few hours of hard labor during my pregnancy and that was nothing compared to her taking it out of me. I have a pretty high pain threshold, but dang when she yanked it out I thought she tore out my uterus and cervix with her! I was glad to get it out though. My September period lasted for right at 7 weeks before I made that appointment to get it out. I am since back on the Depo shot and love it. Glad my DH is a nurse. He gives me my shots.
