We are becoming foster parents!

Recently the DHS started a campaign to try to get every church in the county to try and get at least one family from their congregation to become foster parents. Those who are not able to do it themselves will support those who are able. Well, my husband and I felt like we wanted to do this so we signed up. The paperwork has been horrendous, but we feel it is worth it. We had to go get our fingerprints taken so the FBI could do a background check. Now we are attending required classes and still have to take a CPR course. We have a nice home with extra room since all 4 of our children are old enough to have left the nest. My mom and dad were loving parents who had over 90 foster children over the course of 20 years. They were loved just like we were. That is what I want to do. Keep them safe and let them know they are loved.

Good for you. My husband and I are foster parents. It is very rewarding. It does have its' trials but a lot of special times as well. Good luck to you both.

Good for you. It is so great to see that there is people like you who are willing to take on disadvantage children and give them the love and attention they deserve. It is people like you who give them a chance in life. I would love to foster myself but at the moment my circumstances don't allow it, maybe in the future when my own 5 children are all grown up.

Yes, it would be hard if you still have your own little ones in the house. Our youngest is 21 and we both miss having little ones running around. Maybe in the future you will be able to do what you can to help. Maybe you could check into your local area to see if there is a need for things your little ones have outgrown or no longer want. Everything helps.:)

That is a wonderful thing for you to do. Good foster parents can make a huge difference in a child's life, especially showing them what a normal family is really like. Yours may be the first home they have ever felt loved in. God bless you for doing this, and God bless your parents for their superb example to their children.

Thanks dragon, you are kind. My parents were great! My Dad passed away about a year ago, but Ma is still kicking. She is going strong and would probably still take in children if they didn't have an age restriction. She is quite a character.

I think that is awesome, I'm sure you will give tons of love and support to a child who needs it. Let us know how things work out, either way, we support you.

I am sure that I will keep you posted. I want to give these children a fair start in life. Already we have offers of clothing and babysitting from some of our church families. That will help a lot since some of the babies come to us with only what they are wearing. :(
