I live in an apartment, but I still want to be able to grow some vegetables. Someone told me that certain vegetables can be grown from my balcony if I hang them upside down. Has anyone ever tried this? Has it worked? What types of vegetables did you try?

Hello kelly and welcome to myLot. There are many thigs that you can grow on your balcony. But you must get plenty of sunshine for a lot of them. Tomatoes can be grown in pot or hanging upside down as well as cucumbers and some squashes. Herbs are another garden item that will do well in pot or containers. Here are a couple of web sites to help you get started. http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/extension/container/container.html http://ezinearticles.com/?Growing-Vegetables-in-Containers---The-Compact-Solution&id=6

I have already been growing many herbs, so I think I am ready to try something else! Thanks for the sites. I think that is what I needed because I want to make sure I get the plants started right.

I haven't done this myself, but recently I saw a device on television that allows your tomato plants to grow upside down. This is supposed to result in juicier tomatoes and better production in very little space. Keeping in mind that it was a commercial, it did make sense to me. I would think that nearly any vegetable that hangs down from a vine would do just as well, such as cucumbers or peas.
