I am curious how I can convence my wife into getting a dog. Our children enjoys playing with their friends puppy and I enjoy them as well, but she does not want us to have one because she think that it will make the house smell bad. Does a dog have a bad odor?

if just because of your children want a dog, then i will advise you not to, unless your wife is willing to, not only the bad smell of the dog, but also need to clear the motion and the urine, need to bath the dog,all this hard work will go to your wife, not the children, not you too, i think, playing and having one is two different thing, consident carefully before buying

That's right. I was advised to shower it once in every 3 to 4 days.

Your wife may be more concerned about the smell from little puppy accidents on the floors than about the smell of the dog itself. Puppies don't automatically know that they're supposed to go outside to "go potty"...they need to be trained and that takes time and it takes work. Some dogs do tend to get smelly but there are many breeds that don't and bathing a dog regularly helps to keep the smell down.

she is very clean and it could be why she doesn't want to have one. She probably knows that she will have to do all the work. Thanks

Hi ppersaud , My 3 big dogs don't have a bad smell at all . Do you have friends that have dogs ? Maybe if you went to visit others that have dogs your wife can see how much the kids love playing with the dogs and she will change her mind about having one. Another thing she probably thinks she will be the one doing all the work with a new dog. Maybe if you divide up the work , then your wife will be more willing to get a dog .. Good luck !

thanks for the tip, this is exactly what I was thinking. She is afraid that all the work will be put on her.

Hi Ppersaud, Lots of my friends love dogs and they have 1 or 2 by their own. We have 2 dogs too. Sometimes when my friends want to go travel, they will send their dogs over to our house. Once, we have 6 dogs together, oh, man, you can't imagine, my home is just like a dog parties! Big dogs, small dogs, long hair one, short hair one, they are so happy to gather together and they plays with each other. To be honest, my house smell like DOG. But my friend also told me that some dog do nothave bad odorm, maybe you can go to a pet shop and ask for that kind of dog. And training is also very important, you need to train them to pee outside, not inside the house, so don't forget to pick a smart puppy.

it sounds like those dogs are having plenty of fun and love at your house. We just want one little puppy and we will continue to coax her into letting us temporary have one home for a few weeks.

Dogs have dog odor. For some people is intolerable. Cats also smell like cats. I love my dog but she lives outside. The first thing I taught her was that only humans live in houses. She understands that (at least when I´m nearby). Pretty clever of her, being just a 4 and 1/2 month old puppy. Having a dog indoors or outdoors also depend on the breed. Mine is a german shepherd and is already turning my garden into a mined camp

we are interested in a little puppy and the children and I would not want to leave it outside. They are pets that we turn and can say anything to. They bring happiness to us all. May we just need to have one for a few weeks and see if she will adjust or get used to the smell.

I have to say that not all dogs have odors and odors can be controlled by grooming and bathing. LOL!!! But what I would do is research about what you want and need in a dog to find the right breed for you. Also do what I did. I told my other half that it's my dog and the kids' dog and we'll take care of the dog. That way he wasn't stuck with the responsibility of the dog.

Convincing is not an easy task, if your wife is afraid of the dog smell. All dogs have their own body smell. However, if you grow to love the dog, you will automatically love that smell. lol. This is not the only thing you have to consider in owning a dog. As a dog owner, there are a lot of responsibilities in taking care of it, like showering it once in every four days, preparing food for it, clearing of its wastes, bringing it for grooming, etc. Most of all you have to love it. Do not own a dog just to play with it.
