Well for those that don't know FIL got diagnosed w/ stage 1 throat cancer late last summer. MIL was neglecting herself and lying to the Dr's & she has reproductive cancer and that was found in January. She's started treatments after her surgery last month. Well the form she has is a 50/50 rate of returning. Her Dr admitted her yesterday & they have determined the cancer is still in her. The surgey only removed what they were able to find at the time, now there is more. Her spirits are so down she wants to finalize her funeral arrangements I don't know what to say to her to give her continued hope. I have called her pastor in hope she can visit her to lift her spirits, help her renew her faith and lift her heavy heart.

What a horrible time for your family! But if she has a pastor, she at least has faith to buoy her, evidently. Of course she feels low, anyone would. Make a list of the nice things she's done for people. Put each on a piece of paper, fold it up and put it in a box. Each day she can open one--or she might want to open several. It will cheer her up, let her know she's loved and appreciated. Maybe your kids can contribute some nice memories of when she took them to the zoo, etc. I'll pray that your family has strength to get through this.

Nifty idea about the box. I'll have to pass that one along to hubby see what he can come up with. They haven't done much outside of the house nor with my kids that wasn't at their house in a few yrs and even then they didn't want to really participate. *sigh*
