Current AVG Free Version is not as good as it used to be against new viruses. Most probably the virus has blocked the update. If you have a pen/flash/thumb drive you can do the following. 1) Download ClamWin portable. 2) Install it on your pen drive. 3) Run the program without being connected to the Internet. Bear in mind that ClamWin takes a long time for a full scan. An alternative or complementary action is to use Malwarebytes. You may be surprised at the number of malware on your system. AVG used to be my first line of defence. Now I am using Comodo Internet Security. Even the free version is better than many o/ther antivirus software. We can use it together with other antivirus software like AVG, Avast, and Avira. The firewall itself has enabled me to block several major intrusions. Last but not least avoid using unsecure browsers like IE. Firefox is also vulnerable and they usually take a long time to patch things up. The point is really clever rrackers (evil twin of hackers) use codes similar to certain parts of the browser's code. All antivirus and firewall software, at least in my knowledge, recognse these codes as harmless and let them thruogh. I have always felt safer with Opera. all the best, rosdimy

CIS is faster and is an integration of antivirus and firewall. It s firewall menu is better than ZoneAlarm, and we have a greater control over what to allow or otherwise. If you are using Norton 2003 it is better to have it uninstalled and have CIS replacing it. Go to comodo.com. Since no software can block everything you may have two antivirus software installed. Norton may not be compatible with CIS. I have both CIS and Avast running together.
