I'm No Mug

I was just making a coffee when I realised that I use the same coffee mug every day. I have a number of little rituals and I like to have my mid morning drink in the same mug each day. Do you have a favourite cup or mug that you MUST drink from?

*taps glass* Um... so... you forgot to tell us what kind of mug. Is it plain white? Does it have company slogan on it? OOOO It's a fish of the year mug isn't it? Mine is well - sweet. I have a book title I created because I thought it fit my tastes, who I am.... Blue Jeans and Lace... I have since used it as my screen name on another place. I like my jeans and t-shirt style but I have a taste for dainty lace curtains and antique chairs. I know you are wondering what all that has to do with my mug right? Well, I think your favorite things speak a lot of you. So my mug fits me. It is this neat tall mug that is dainty at the same time. It shows a cottage surrounded by ivy and small flowers... think something like a Thomas Kincaid feeling painting. It has a saying on it about friendship. It was given to me a few years back by a friend that has since become a chosen sister.

Mine has "Yummy Mummy" written on it. I wonder what that says about me!!!! LOL. I just like it because it's big. But maybe Freud would read more into it than that.

Maybe because it was The Boss's before it was yours? Like we like to wear the man's t-shirts. You know... like a hug from a mug thing.

Yup. And I have more than one. I'm really picky about the cups and mugs I use. My very top faves are Christmas cups. I had one, emphasis on the HAD, that was given to me by one of the kids I took care of in school several years ago. Well, one day, the handle broke off. I superglued it back on. Then, many moons later, I had washed it by hand for my morning coffee, and I held it by the handle and shook it rather hard to shake off the excess water, and omg, to my horror, the cup flew off the handle, and smashed into a few big, and several small, pieces, too many to put back together with superglue. I was devastated! Still am. But since then, I've gotten a couple more Christmas mugs and although they're not the same as the old one, and don't have any sentimental value, they are still Christmas mugs and I love them. Coffee just somehow tastes better in a Christmas mug, p1key!

Yes, mummy, I have my memories and I also have a big piece of the cup still. I've got it in a plant. I'm really too sentimental. And p1key, you're so sweet. I know you've seen the mug and I did love it a lot. But at least I've got a couple of replacements, although they're not nearly as good as the other one. Sighhhh...

yes it's weird but it just doesn't taste the same from any old mug!! At work i had a scooby doo one and at home i have a disney piglet one i usually get a new one for my birthday and then swap to that. They usually have some form of character or witty sentence on there i like my mugs interesting *grins*. My boo has a lazy b*stard mug but he keeps using my old ones cos it isn't big enough. The poochy even has his own cup that he got with doggy treats in for xmas he'll tell us if he wants a brew lmao

I'm with you on this, I really don't know why I do this either because I aren't OCD or anything but I have a mug that only I drink from and if someone else drank from it, I'd throw it away and buy a new one before I'd drink from it, can't figure it out myself but god help the person who drank from it..lol..I'd love to know why I'm like this in my own house because if I visit someone, I don't mind drinking from their cups, so I just accept my little mug thingy in my own house.

No but my husband does. I accidentally broke the last one and there was hell to pay. But that was a couple of years ago and he had to move to another one. It only gets washed up when I do it, otherwise he just puts more coffee in it when he is ready. I dread to think how long it goes between washes when I'm away for longer than a day.

LOL. I have to wash mine up. But when I worked some of the mugs were disgusting! I remember one lady washing up a colleague's mug and he was furious. I think that she bleached it to get the tannin stains out!

Actually I have two mugs that I drink out of. They are my favorite mugs and I end up drinking out of both sometimes daily. My mugs will hold 16-18 ounces each depending on how full you want them. No one else uses them but me. I have to have at least one mug of coffee to get the gears in my head whirling.

You sound a serious coffee drinker Becky. I can't have more than two cups a day without getting sick to my stomach. So it's tea for me in the mornings.

Well, most times I only get one mug full of coffee a day most times but if I am extra sleepy or tired I might have two but that only happens a few times a week. But I do also drink tea, green tea, and hot chocolate in my mugs as well.

No, I don't use the same mug every morning. But I am VERY discerning when I purchase a mug.... it must fit well in my hand, the rim must be just so, etc. So all of my mugs are like my favorite one. There are a few mugs I never use because they were purchased to fit my husbands hand, not mine.

Hey p1key! Yes, I do have a favorite mug, actually I have two favorite mugs! I have one that I drink my tea out of and one that I use to drink my soda out of! I have to drink all my drinks out of mugs that have lids! I am always spilling my drinks so my boyfriend got me a big mug for Christmas for my soda! And I bought myself one and one for him for his cups of coffee and my cups of tea with lids on them too! This way I limit my spilling!

That's when I spill mine too! It's the elbow knocking into my little table setup where I put the cup, that's why I have to have a lid on it!

Nope! I don't have a favorite mug that I must drink from every day. Nor do I have any other favorite dishes that I must drink or eat from every day. (I do have some dishes and mugs that I like better then some of my others, but it doesn't matter to me if I use them every day or not.) Neither do I have any set daily routines. I pretty much just play every day by ear and seldom do anything in the same order twice from day to day. Variety is the spice of life, don't ya know! Seriously, though, I live for variety, that is the one thing I have to have every day, or else things feel very mundane and I do not feel content.

Hi P1kef1sh, Oh yes I do have a favourite mug that I use, it is the one that holds the largest amount of tea and is sunshine yellow as a cheerful colour, I tend to use it all day just rinsing before making my next cups, the kids drive me mad when they get a fresh cup of glass for each drink. I do HAVE to have the yellow mug though but prefer to use. Huggles. Ellie :D

One of the dangers of a dishwasher Ellie is that it encourages you to not wash up your mug troughout the day. I used to be terrible for using a mug and then sticking it into the dishwasher and getting out a clean one. I try harder now - especially since we got our last energy bill in. LOL. XXX

I do have one that I pefer over the others. I don't drink coffee every day though. I drink an occasional hot chocolate, or cup of tea a few times a week. I tend to reach for ths same mug all the time, mostly because it is slightly bigger than all the mugs, but if it is dirty or in the dishwasher or something I am OK with using one of the other ones.

hello pikey, i am not finicky or particularly possessive about which mug i use to drink my morning cup of tea and coffee. But yes, i do drink from the same mugs everyday not for any particular reason except that i live alone and don`t have many mugs.If i have a large crowd at my place which is rarer than the blue moon then i borrow mugs from my neighbours who are good enough to lend me. However as i said its a rarity and i try and avoid such situations.lol chum.

Hello, I am new to this site, but I saw your posting and I had to respond to it. Its good to know I am not the only one with "the mug". My mother used to tease me and call mine a jug, cause it the big coffee mugs. I still drink from it to this day. I can't call it a morning without drinking from it. LOL
