....more smarter or not? More information, more smartnes? More access to all what somebody want to know , can be a oportunity for new genereation? Or when was more harder, in the past i mean, when we reading a lot to acumulate informations was more intersting ? I can say that all what i learned in school, in university is fresh in my mind, even i don t use a computer when i was very young. But i read so many books, sometimes i really wonder how much somebody can acumulate so many information just from books. Now is so easy really, but i want to say, that new generation, if don t have a computer forgot all. i don t want say that for us was very hard, who want to learn, learn now and learn in the past, too, as they will learn in the future. My question is....HOW MUCH HELP COMPUTER ERA NEW GENERATION TO LEARN AND ACUMULATE NEW INFORMATIONS?

I would have to say that it depends on the person. Although it is easier to access information than it ever was in the past, not everyone will access it. Some people would rather waste time on social networks than learn something new. Others, like myself, like to learn new things using the internet. Usually, I learn about stuff that I don't learn in school or I look up more information on what I did learn in school. Sometimes I will be sitting in class and my teacher is talking about something I had learned about months ago on the computer. I might even catch a mistake or two. Computers have helped me become smarter, but without regular school books I wouldn't know much that I would need to know. So I believe it has helped, but to what extent depends on the individual. Basically, computers are just another tool that could be used in a productive manner, or just as another distraction in our lives.

Hi, Icesmile, I've noticed a pronounced reduction in my students' intelligence. They know how to find things with their computers, but they seldom seem to absorb the information. Many admit they don't read it, andd others tell me they don't understand it. Computers have become a crutch that has replaced instead of enhanced the knowledge base.

I really appreciate the acknowledgement. I enjoy our discussions, so I'm glad you do, as well.

More smarter? I don't think that's literate, we were taught proper English. I think the next generation is sad!

In some ways, it has helped the new generation to get information, but in other ways, computers have also helped to dumb people down. For instance, in almost any store or restaurant you go into, people are using electronic cash registers where they don't have to remember how to manually add, subtract, divide, and multiply. The thing is, electricity tends to go out every so often--how, then, is someone going to get by if they don't know how to put pencil to paper and figure out what is owed? The other thing is, I think that since the rise of computers, kid aren't as likely to get outside and entertain themselves (my dad has told me that in his day, kids used to build their own scooters). Basically, there is more information available and more ways to get information, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's always such a good thing. lol Sorry for sounding like such an old fuddy duddy. :)

In order to answer your question, I do believe that computer does help a lot for today's generations to gather informations, to make everything easier, or even in this internet era, it is very very easy to find answers for all questions you might not think of. But, as mentioned in previous comments, I don't think today's generation is smarter than the previous generation :) As we can see, the previous generations did work hard to do research or invent things with a very minimal tools, which I think they surely must be smarter than today's generations.
