Anyone have type 1?

Hello. Just wondering if there are any other type 1s on here - I see lots of posts by type 2s. I was diagnosed in 1997 at age 18 but my pancreas was still "honeymooning" so I wasn't on insulin until 2001. Yup, spent college getting used to the big D. Started on the pump in 2007 - love it - and think I may be getting a CGMS in the next couple months. So type 1s or LADAs - what's your story? There have to be more of us on here!

I don't have diabetes myself but I have an 18 year old granddaughter who has had Type I since she was around 13. She was on the pump for awhile but she's not using it anymore...I don't remember the reason. She's had a lot of trouble with her diabetes throughout the last couple of years. She has arthritis which causes her a lot of pain at times. Her sugar and ketones go crazy for no reason that anyone has been able to determine yet so she's been in and out of the hospital and had to spend most of her senior year being homeschooled by a tutor instead of in class. Katie recently moved out of her home, feeling that the stress caused by her parents is responsible for her recent medical problems so we'll have to see if she's right. I'm in daily contact with her so her grandfather and I don't have to worry too much. Since I'm her step-grandmother and have a daughter three months older than she is, we have a pretty close relationship.
