Can anyone explain the difference between Squidoo lens and blog?

I have been trying to decide whether to start a blog or have a Squidoo lens which could hopefully direct traffic to my writing on Triond. It would be good if I could have advertising on there as well, but not essential. Can anyone tell me the advantages or disadvantages of one over the other?

I also think they are pretty much the same thing. The difference with Squidoo are the number of modules you can add along with the methods of revenues that are possible. Dean Kagan

I have found out that a Squidoo lens is just one page, whereas a blog can just keep going.

I have several blogs and several squidoo lenses. The basic difference is that the blog is set up to be added to daily or more or less often. The lens is not set up that way and is basically one page of information on some topic of your choosing. With the lens you are able to add different widgets to make it more interesting and increase your possibilities of making an income. The blog on the other hand is more like a journal or diary where you can write on one specific topic or multiple topics and do whatever you want to do each time you log on. The lens is not something that you would add to daily or weekly. As for the money making on either a blog or lens, you still have to do your work in getting traffic to come to your site. That is the hard part. But the way I look at it, if you are wanting traffic to a specific site, creating a blog and/or a lens about that site is a good idea because it just gets more out there on the net about it. My blogs and lenses have not made enough money yet for payouts, but that is my fault because I have not been doing the marketing work that it takes to draw the traffic there. I don't know that there are specific advantages or disadvantages of either a blog or a lens over the other. It just depends on what you want to accomplish. And you can always have both. I like the blogs better myself because once you create your lens, there isn't much more you can do with it. It's done. The blog can continue as long as you want it to.

Thanks for all that information. I'm still undecided, but think that I might do a lens to start with just to see how I get on.

I think that they are both the same thing really. I have a blog as well as a squidoo page although I have not used them for some while now. They are both places where you can write about things and share your thoughts generally. I think that I will return to blogging at some point though as I really love to write and I have also had several articles published on Helium. Good luck with your own writings. Andrew
