When you spot something you like, what do you check out first about the item?

Hi everyone! When I go on a window shopping and spot on something I like, the first I check is the price tag. But I find it weird sometimes that there are shops that don’t put price tags or they put it where it can’t be seen immediately. If an item I like has no price tag, it loses my interest on the item. I don’t like asking sales persons how much an item is. I feel shy asking sometimes. Especially if I can sense that the items the store has are kinda expensive. I feel like if I ask for the price and found out that it’s too expensive and opted not buying it, I feel embarrassed for I have to leave. I feel shy saying “oh it’s too expensive, thanks anyway”. I don’t know but I just feel this way. Weird, yeah.. But I think most people are shy in asking for the price of an item. We once had a store and sometimes items without price tags don’t get enough sales. One time I heard 2 customers murmuring amongst themselves about how they like the item but there’s no price tag. The two were poking each other as to who would ask how much the item was. The other one said “it’s embarrassing to ask” and they decided to leave. Back then I thought I was the only one hehe. What about you guys? Please do share!

well of course the first i would look in is the price. i check the tag how much it cost and if i can afford it or not... lol but if there's no price and i really like the item, and i need to know if i can buy it some other time, knowing tagless items are indeed expensive, i would ask the sales lady how much it cost... then if its really expensive, i make a comment like WOW!!!! how expensive! and then smile... then i put back the item and tell the sales lady thank you and smile at her again. i am way past that shy stage... lol... i am shameless now... dont be afraid to ask prices, sales lady will not look down on you if you cant afford the item, in fact some of them will be helpful and would suggest other items on sale that looks like the one your asking for. there is this store here where i go most of the time and just ask the prices...lol.. i bet they know me already, but i don buy there though once in a while if the item i liked before is on sale, they give like 50-70% discount... great noh?

50-70% discount?! Wow! That is a great deal! I know I shouldn't be ashamed to ask for the price but I just feel that way. I try to change it but I just can't. Maybe I'm just afraid to be looked down by others though I know not being able to buy an expensive item could be the basis for people to look down on us. Happy posting!

yep 50-70% discount... i had bought this dress at that store, it was 899 pesos original price, when i went back there, there were only few pieces left and they were on sale and i was able to buy it 250 pesos... hehe, they didn't put tag again so i ask again . i was like that too, i always think that people would look down on me if i will not be able to buy something that i have asked the price of because it was expensive for me. i always like reading, i read books, mags, everything... the change came to me when i happen to read on famous people, celebrities, businesswomen, and some rich personalities... you know they buy things in sale, yes its true they said, other personality i read there said they dont buy if its not on sale... kuripot? haha... yep... so i said to myself, why would i worry, i mean these people are already rich and they dont buy expensive items even if they can afford it...lol hope you get the courage to do that sometimes...

Oh I don't have the patience to scout for cheaper prices. Maybe I can check out for at least 3 stores but usually I don't. Happy posting!

If you ask me, I can ask the price if I'm with someone. But if I'm alone I would just leave the store. Happy posting!

for me i always look at the quality of the product. i examine every single detail and see whether i really like it. and if i do whether the price is there or not i will buy it because its good in quality and good in other ways that i like and so it must be worth it. but if im skeptical i will ask how much it costs but if its out of my price range i will say something like do you have this in green? or do you have a bigger one? some kind of question that will make them say no then I'll go hm I'll look somewhere else then thanks anyways. haha i know im a little weird like that. but hey at least you're not the only one.

When I look at boutiques at the mall,I usually check the price first.next I check the item if it is worth it's price.when I'm vintage shopping,I check the fit of the garment first.then I check the quality-no holes,no broken zippers, and no torn fabrics.I don't usually check the price since I know how cheap the item will be.

Hi! If I'm buying a garment I also check it for holes and if the zipper is working fine. I also carefully check the edges or the seams cause I don't like if there are threads still hanging or haven't been cut off. Keep posting!

I also check the price tag first when I am interested in an item. The price needs to be reasonable enough for me to buy. Or if it is expensive, the item should be worth the price. If the item has no price tag, I don't ask how much it is anymore. Then I lose interest in the item already. I never ask salesladies because it is too embarrassing and sometimes, they are really snobbish. If the tag is hidden, I pull it out then when I leave, I don't put the tag inside the clothes again so that others may see the price tag too if they wish.

Yeah some price tags are hidden especially for bags and I wonder why they have to hide it. People need to know first hand how much an item is and the fact that they are selling, price tags should at all times be easily seen by potential buyers. Keep posting!

I'm at a stage in my life financially that I can afford the finer things without worrying too much about the cost - that is not arrogance or anything it's just stating a fact about my financial status right now after working hard for over 20 years and previously having to watch the pennies. If I see something I like the price wouldn't put me off - but saying that I don't have overly expensive tastes. A little story... I remember being on holiday in India (Calcutta) a few years ago and visiting a new shopping mall. I saw an outfit in the window of a store which I liked but didn't LOVE. It was one of those shops which are so up themselves that they don't put price tags on them, so I went in and asked one of the assistants how much it was, she said it was ONLY 50,000 Rupees, which is well over £600 in UK currency. I smiled at her and said "interesting" and went to walk out of the store. She practically grabbed me to come back and said to me "ma'am, we have top Bollywood actresses and top models buying their garments from here!" I was very amused and said "I'm not an actress or a model, I'm just an average person! The outfit is nice enough but it certainly isn't even worth half that price to me!" To be honest, if I had really LOVED it I would have considered paying that amount for it. It didn't make one bit of difference to me to be told that famous people shopped there. My cousin who I was out shopping with was rather embarrassed that I had actually asked the price but well if I didn't ask I would have never known... Personally speaking as someone whose husband loves buying designer gear, I don't care if an item is £1 or £100, as long as it is something I like and/or need, I will buy it. I know a £1 item might be of much lower quality but it's not always the case and just because it costs £100 as opposed to £5 does not mean it's the best quality either :)

Hey! I'm not the only one who has that feeling of "shyness" to ask about the price of an item in the department store! I'm glad to hear people being honest ith how they feel. I do feel that way too, especially on item that really look nice and expensive! I think a lot of people do that- look at the price tag the moment they look and hold a beautiful item. Like for example, whenever I window-shop for a dress, I normally look first at the design, then the cloth material, then the size and lastly, the price-in that order!

i check out the price first and if one doesn't have a price tag i ask for the price. also i always want my blouses or tops in a tunic style which means no buttocks showing in one way or another when i wear it because i always have tights on .

I am also like you! If the material is really nice I'd probably buy it. But it depends on what kind of item it is. I can spend much on bags and shoes but not on tees. I don't want to spend on much on something that worn out easily. And I think bags and shoes are more durable than t-shirts. Happy posting!

when i go shopping the first thing i check out on that item is the price tag. i wanted to know how much it costs for me to know the right price and to know if my money is enough for that item. because if my budget can not afford it then ill find ways to buy other things with the same specifications of that things or item. atleast i could afford it then.

I always look out for the price tag. It somehow is a coincidence may be, but it always happens that whichever thing I like, it always turns out to be expensive and totally out of my budget. Yes I first check the price tag if I like a product and if the price tag is not there, I will inquire of the price.

its always the price..hehehe.i think thats very common and okay becoz its important that we look at the price so that we will know if its affordable for us once we decided to buy the item.yeah, sometimes there are items that doesnt have prices and we dont have any choice but to ask the salesperson..yes,its true that its awkward to ask how much it costs.but in a department store? i never feel ashamed to ask for the price, only in shops or boutique that looks all the items are expensive and only few are there,hhmmm..i never ask for the price :)

I don't ever window shop. I am poor so I only go shopping when I have a direct idea in my mind of what I want/ need and I don't stray from it.

If I spotted something I like, I would first check for the price tag(if i can afford it or not) If i could afford it then the next thing I would check is the quality (if it's well done or not, etc).. but you know what? most of the time when i spotted something that i like i just don't buy it.. i would rather buy something important such as medicines for my maintenance or food.. i would just let my obsession/craving pass..
