I just wonder if they allow you to do so? If you want to get rid of your landline from your local telephone company, can you still get a DSL connection? I knew that I can get a cable modem for internet, but I just want to know if I can still get DSL if I don't want to have landline phone service, since I use my cellphone most of the time. Does anyone know?

I am presently using the internet on a DSL connection. I use the phone line but I do not have a land line. It is called a "non-working' number. I do not know if all phone companies offer this deal, but it is working for me right now!

What country are you in that allows you to do this, and what phone company? Did you just try it and it worked, or did you have to set this up? Thanks for the post. Interesting.

Most likely not. DSL is typically offered by the local telephone company only because it is they who own those lines.

Usually DSL connection requires you to have landline. I heard a company offer wireless version of this broadband connection in my country. Currently, I use a USB wireless modem to connect to the internet. It is a high speed modem using a SIM card(same as cellphone SIM card) and it is connected to a laptop or PC. I also can use my cellphone as a modem because it has a modem function. So I can always connected to the internet wherever I go (depends on their network). This type of connection uses 3G/3.5G/GPRS/EDGE for connection. The speed range from 384kbps to 3.6Mbps depends on subscription.

I think you can't get rid of your phone if you want to use DSL. But then there are still other options if you want to have a fast internet connection without a telephone. You can go for a wireless internet connection. Here in Philippines we are subscribed in a wireless internet connection that only uses a computer connected with an internet box, I forgot the exact name. We do not have a telephone but we still have a fast internet connection unlimited use with a fix monthly rate. We do not need a phone because we already have a cellphone, I and my husband. DSL needs a telephone to work so better go with a wireless connection. There are also some prepaid wireless (like USB devices) that you can already use if you want a cheaper internet bill. What we have now is a year contract with Smart Broadband and they never charge excess but just fix monthly payment with a good internet service.

Yes, to use a DSL connection, you need to have a working landline

Here in our country, we need to have a landline when you want to have DSL. Telephone companies will just put data into their existing telephone lines. Yes, a cable internet connection can have internet without your telephone. But I think in DSL you really need to have it.
