Salads are generally thought to be healthy but that is not always the case , depending on what ingredients you have put into and what all are the toppings as well as what is the dressing. toppings such as bacon bits and croutons contain unhealthy fats and can add many calories to your diet. so you should think before adding things into your salad. furthermore, cheese, cured meat, and fried chicken too is not healthy at all. Mayonnaise is highly fattening, so i never ever put that in mine and if i order any sandwich also from ant sandwich parlour or Subway, i dont ask them to put Mayo in it. i like low-fat youghurt, lemon juice, black pepper, garlic little bit and herbs in my salad. what do you add and how do you make your salad ? please share. thanks.

I usually have tomatoes, cucumber, cheese, black olives, ham or turkey, and ranch dressing on my salad. I know it is not real healthy but there are a lot of things we eat that are not healthy. To me a salad is not good if it does not have the items I list above on it.

salads .. - healthy salads
Hi aweins, I normally make salads with fresh vegetables like Cucumber, carrots, tomatoes, capsicum, beet root and fresh herbs.I use yogurt as a dressing with just salt and pepper, so not too many calories. I also make salads with sprouts and pasta again with very little dressing and oil. so i feel it is healthy..

I like eating salads. They are so refreshing and I feel lighter after I eat a salad, as if my body has been cleansed of toxins. Weird but true. I usually just put mango and crabstick in my salad. As for the dressing, it is always a bit of caesar salad and vinaigrette. I like my salad with only one or two toppings. I don't put meat in my salad.

My salads are hardly ever healthy, My fiance only eats Ceasar Salad. On my own, I like the garden salads. I Love fresh Veggies and Cheese with some yummy lettuce... and just a Tad bit of Ranch dressing :)

I love salads, and tend to have as much salad as I can including peppers, red onion, cabbage, lettuce, cucumber, celery, tomato's and what-ever else I fancy. I use a honey and mustard dressing which is low fat.

Is ur salad healthy or what? Hey aweins, you make a good point about the bacon bits and mayo. On my salads I normally use a little olive oil and vinegar, salt and black pepper as I'm usually trying to keep the calories down to a minimum. Well I heard also that yogurt isn't really all that good for you either b/c that is an animal product and it's in the same family as cheese and butter which amounts to high cholesterol in the longrun. I guess that is why I normally believe in eating whatever I want but I just keeping it to a minimum. Leave it to the health officials and just about everything is bad for us but I believe that moderation is the key.

Hi aweins, you are right about salad dressings and other fattening additives but don't forget that if your basic salad items were commercially produced they are probably heavily contaminated with chemicals which are equally if not more unhealthy than fat. I am very lucky in that I grow all my own salad items in my garden or on my balcony and apart from maybe a tin of tuna or a chopped up boiled egg very rarely add anything else. I like a low calorie yogurt dressing with some horse radish sauce mixed into it.

Mine's healthy :) For my dressing, I only use olive oil. I use either tuna or cold cuts. And then it also has tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, onions and to add a bit of flavor, you'll find a really thin strip of cheese.

My salads are generally pretty simple and boring! I think the most unhealthy salad I make and eat is caesar salad. I do love them, but the dressing isnt very good for you! I will often make salads to go with dinner. Usually they consist of mostly lettuce. Depending on what else I have is what I will add to it. My husband is happy with a bowl full of lettuce and some dressing! Usually I try to add things like shredded carrots, mushrooms, and bell pepper. I will put just about any other veggies on when we have them too! My salads are always healthy. I dont like dressing on them so I am just getting veggies. My husband puts dressing on his. That makes it not quite as healthy. But even with dressing, he is eating veggies. So that is ok with me!
