I just got threw another boring meeting amoung my collegues and I have been told that I need to cut 60 more hours from my department to make up for company losses. The only way I can afforid to do that is to let a few people go, I have already had to fire a few people right after the holidays. That wasn't too hard I had a few people in mind already, now I have no problems with my employees so it will all come down to who is producing the most work in a certain amount of time. Has anyone else had to go threw this weither it is being laid off or laying others off? I hope things get better for everyone so we no longer have to experience this.

Unfortunately, this is happening more and more often! My husband is losing his job at the end of June because they are combining his position with another one and he is not qualified to do the other one. I hope that you can figure out something different other than laying people off. I'll be thinking positively that it will work out

It must have been really stressful for you to decide on which employee you need to drop to be able to cope up with yuor company' downsizing. But the hardest part is being able to motivate your remaining team to be more productive than usual without the perks and privilages they usually get before the recession happened.

This situation is not good, especially to the person who is being laid off. My husband was retrenched about three years ago, and it was the most difficult moment for us. We had to move out from our place because we were afraid we couldn't pay for the rentals and we decided to stay at my parents' house until my husband gets a new job. The situation happened not because my husband was a lousy worker but the company was shut down forever, due to the inability to get a new contract after the old one ended. I am glad that everything was over now, and we have already a new life which is a lot better than before. I guess everything that happened opened our eyes and taught us how to survive in the worst situation. And when we strive for excellence, everything can be easy. For you, I don't know whether you have the feeling of reluctance of anything. If I have to fire someone I will get very sad and I really pity the person who is going to be fired, especially when he or she has a family to support. To find a new job is not easy and what can they eat during unemployment? I have experienced it in my own life and it was very difficult. I just hope that there is another way to avoid retrenchment, maybe you can cut costs here and there, such as entertainment cost for the higher ranking staff, overly high meal allowance or any luxurious expenses which is not very important when compared to the salary of an ordinary worker who is dependent on his salary to continue living.
