humidity and airconditioning

Hi everyone! Our electric bills have skyrocketed recently because of the extensive use of air conditioning. I have a new baby and she is really fussy when she feels all hot and sweaty. So I have no choice bu to turn on the AC. What I do in order to save on electric consumption is to turn on the AC only when we can no longer stand the heat, which is around 1:30pm, when the sun is high up in the sky and we would like to take a nice comfortable nap. Then we turn it off in the afternoon and just endure the humidity. But after dinner we turn it on again to cool the room. The AC remains on until around midnight and then we shift to the use of an electric fan. This works well and we are quite comfortable. How about you? Is the weather very warm in your place at this time? How are you handling your electric bills? Do you have electricity conservation efforts in order to lower your electric bills? Take care all and God bless you! happy mylotting! :D

I also find it impossible not to turn on the AC everynight... since it can be too hot and my 3 year old daughter would have a hard time to sleep... so during the day... we just use the electric fan... we live at the third floor of an apartment building so it is a little less hot... but just a little... and good thing that it rained a few days early this month... so those were the days that we did not use the AC...

Hmmm...are you in the Philippines? Most Filipinos do that kind of thing. I suggest turn the AC thermostat where its cold enough...dont turn it high because you don't need your room to be too cold...all you want is to be comfortable enough to take a nap. That way you don't use too much electricity.

Same for me. Everything is as full blast for awhile now. During the day, at night and in the afternoon. But there are occasional winds and rains but more towards the blazing heat. I think the world is quite in a sick health right now and I am trying my best to 'go green'. I try not to use too much electricity, but just like you, on those really warm days, it's totally inevitable. Perhaps one of these days, the weather will be back to becoming cooler.

I live in south Florida and have central A/C so turning it off completely isn't normally an option for me at this time of the year. The other day we had storms in the area and, while the rain wasn't near us, the temperature dropped so our A/C didn't run as much that day. What I do to save a little bit of energy is to turn the thermostat up to 80 when we're not going to be home. We have also closed the vents in the two bedrooms that aren't being used. In the evenings we'll turn the thermostat down to a comfortable level and raise it a little bit before we go to bed.

we don't use air conditioner that much. we just open the window many times when it is hot to let the air inside our room. but when the air is dry and there is no wind from outside to cool down our room then we just turn on the air conditioning. i am not much fond of using our conditioner cause i grew up without . it was just when i was on my 30's that we had our first conditioner in our home. and we don't use that every day for the fear that we will incur too much electricity bills. but when the weather gets too extremely that is the only time we will use the air con whole day for many days till the weather gets to be more cooler and bearable for us. cause there are days that we will just perspire non stop just because it was so hot even the early morning and even at night. that was really terrible time or season. i hate that weather. but usually that extreme hot condition usually don't last more than a week and then it will just be back to normal hot weather when the heat is just enough or warm enough and the electric fan will be enough to cool us down when we feel hot. but in extreme heat, even air conditioner will not be able to give a very cool air. it will be able to neutralize the heat but it will not feel cold either.

I try not to use the air conditioning at all! Right now, the days are warm but the nights are still cool here. It makes for fantastic weather! As long as the weather is like this, we open the windows and doors at night. We make sure everything gets closed up in the mornings. All of the windows are closed and the curtains are closed too. It helps to keep the cool air in without the use of air conditioning! When the summer does get too hot and humid and the nights are no longer a relief, we only turn on the air conditioning in our bedroom. We just deal with the heat and humidity in the rest of the house. If it is too bad, my husband and I will sit on our bed and play card games. I definitely make an effort to save money on my electric bill. I do it with everything - not just air conditioning! It really makes a difference. Glad you were able to find a balance. I hope it continues to work for you and your little daughter!
