I will make a confession first off - my first introduction to this was quite explicit, but that is as far as I will say about that particular branch. Here I would like to address the mainstream, shown in movies and comic books accessible to everyone. My main complaint is that so many of them deal with fighting, including especially particular card games, where their cards turn into monsters and battle each other. Title after title, they are about battling other entities in one form or another, and for the most part, I am quite bored with most of them. One stands apart from all the rest though, (no, not Naruko ...) Hikaru No Shindo is about a Go player, introduced to the game when he was 12 through a possessed Go board. A ghost (and many others) teach him to play, and by the time he is 14 he is a professional Go player. It is the only manga I like since it is not about fighting monsters or cards or such. I am very interested if there are any fans out there who know of any other Japanese works that do not have the violence like Dragon Ball or One Piece or Shamon King or any other violent plot story ... Just a simple adolescent coming of age, or another story that doesn't involve fighting anything. Thank you Thank you.

I'm not into animes that revolve in certain careers - boxing, basketball, card games, etc. I think it's mainly because it's SO realistic, it loses the anime feel. But that's just me :D I know a couple of animes that are not violent at all: my favorite would be Azumanga Daioh about the character development of a group of high school girls. But you know, that description is even a little deeper than what the story actually portrays LOL It's a feel good series that you can watch in un-chronological order :) Next would be Ouran High School Host Club. No fights, just filthy rich spoiled brats who suddenly find themselves in the company of a "commoner" :) Thanks for the response on my discussion!

First, the title of that anime/manga is not Hikaru no Shindo, but Hikaru no Go. Anyways, if you don't like anime that has violent plot/fighting anime then you should try sports genre anime like: Saki, Eyeshield 21, Bamboo Blade, Slam Dunk, Prince of Tennis and Shion no ou. You could also try slice-of-life-comedy anime like Azumanga and Ichigo Mashimaro. But if you want an anime that is very similar to Hikaru no Go, then try Shion no Ou. Both is about board games and has little to no violence.
