Do you do anything else while mylotting?

Sometimes the server is just soooooo slow and I cant keep my patience while waiting for the page to load. So I have some games always at the background to which I switch whenever I am stuck at mylot. I enjoy slow games like free-cell, pop&drop, bubblets…these are easy to play and you can pause them whenever you want. What do you do when the server is stuck? Do you visit other pages on the net or go take a walk to release your frustration?

Yeah, i do visit some pages like my favorite boxing websites. Aside from surfing other sites, i chat with friends on my Yahoo Messenger from time to time. I guess it's best to have someone to talk with while waiting for sites to load. When nobody's around, i would play games like NBA Live. Just one game would be enough. I do check out some of my earning sites but i primarily spend my time here on myLot.

Playing games seems to be a favourite ploy with us mylotters, when the lot works at snail's pace! I dont go to any online games as such as they tend to make the computer slower, I have some in my hard disk and they are quite addictive too...so sometimes I am just glad that mylot is slow.

No, probably becaues I am using a broadband connection and I usually don't have to wait more than 5-10 seconds between page load. Yes, when I do it in night time when I use free download, then I use to play games on internet as I don't have to worry about page loads. When I am doing it in day time, I have to look out because I don't want to waste my megabyte limit. Thank you!

Oh so you use Broadband...of what? BSNL or any other company? Is it fast enough? I use cable connection which is about OK...but even if the server is OK, sometimes mylot server is way too slow. I understand coz if I open other pages, they come out alright real fast!

Cable connection is that the line is provided by the people who have lines for cable TVs at home...they in turn get their connection from various sources, mine is from Webel...I have 24hrs unlimited 128kbps which is OK and I pay Rs 385/- p.m. for it

what is a cable connection and what is the speed? I use Sify broadband with 256Kbps speed. It is good enough but a little costly!

Hi! It is good question, Sudipta, it happens many times when server is not working and you are unable to browse the net, it becomes really frustrating. I have games in my computer, however, I do not like playing those games. If my net is not working, I just take a boo/magzines or a newspaper to read. Reading gives me more pleasure than anything else.

Wow, so you are a bookworm like me? I just love reading, from the newspaper to mags to any books...nowadays I dont get the time to visit any library so whatever book my son brings from his school library, I read it before he can lay his hands on it

You do not even spare your son's books. This shows that you are really passionate about 'reading'. I cannot term myself as a bookworm, however, I love reading, if net/mylot is not working.

I almost always have multiple pages up no matter what I'm doing. At this very moment I have 2 other windows up, both playing "Restaurant City" (a Facebook app) for 2 different people. The only time I ever have 1 window open and nothing else is when I'm desperatly bored and searching for something to do.

Wow, that's a good thing to do...a lot many options to choose from! However, dont multiple pages slow down the speed of your computer? I dont know, but it happens to mine...either the compu cant take so many at a time or the net connection becomes slower...so in any case, I am stuck further!

Yeah I suppose it does slow it down a bit, especially when I'm doing something like playing Restaurant City... but that's probably why I'm on so many different pages. I'll work on the pages that are loaded while I wait for the others to load. Besides, I have a cable connection so it normally only takes as long as a minute to load a page.

Yes, sometimes the server is too slow for me and it irritates me a lot. I read news paper while mylotting or check mails. Now a days I open numerous mylot windows. So, by the time I submit response in one window, the other window will be ready for me to write a response. You can also try the same approach.

Well, that’s a good idea to be sure…but does opening multiple pages make your machine slow? It happens with my computer at office, if I keep too many pages open, my machine just hangs up on me…guess your’s is of a high configuration.

I do a vast number of things while I mylot! -I use facebook to keep in touch with my schoolmates, now discpersed in various colleges. -I use Yahoo! Games- Pool(played it?)with them often. -I see videos at Youtube.(rarely) But most of the time I Blog! at Blogger.(tiring-ly happy) I do all these because I have got a reasonably good internet speed. You must be using Dial up I suppose? If you are using it, maybe I could give you some tips to make mylot faster. *switch off images- choose 'turn off images' from your browser. I used to do that, now I don't do it, i forgot the steps,so just check all the options. *install anyone of these softwares: -Internet Logger -Dynamip -Multimodemia -Rasmonitor -Tick(Has a pop3 checker too!!) Other softwares I found interesting: -Dialup Countdown: set the usage limit- less bills -Connection Keeper: the dial-up has a habit of hanging up. This will prevent it. All these were free during my days of using dial-up - some six months ago. I hope this was quite informational, Regards, Ajith.

wow, wow, wow!!! you are really a net freak, if I may say so. I dont use dial up, instead I have cable connection with 128kbps speed...its OK most of the times but sometimes its just too slow.

Not actually a big internet freak, just a little bit of extra knowledge... Which one do you use? just a normal cable or BSNL one?? If bsnl, i think you must be using Home 250... if you are using BSNL you get less than 50% of speed promised. They are really a slowpoke! And yes, if you need any more help, don't fail to contact this net freak-I mean- ebook freak.

That is a very innovative question you have asked.Since we all have this problem of waiting for the Mylot page to load for a long time because of the heavy traffic at certain times to this site.I always log on to my personal mails and business mail to see and respond to the mail in between mylotting. It is useful as if anything important to do regarding my business I can attend to it immediately.
• India
16 Jun 09
Chking my personal email ID is another thing I do…all my notifications go to my email ID, alongwith any new responses, so I can know immediately if somebody has replied back to any of my responses and I can communicate with that person. Waiting for the mylot page to load, I have plenty of time to chk my other mails too.

That happens to me soooo many times that I can't count. Actually it happens 99% of the time that I'm on here. A lot of that though is because I still am living back in the stone age and my computer is on dial-up,gasp! LOL! I will have faster internet when I mover to my new apartment and go through the cable company. But when that happens I find that a lot of the time I end up IM'ing with my friends and having whole conversations for quite a while. I do that even after the page comes up because I know that as soon as I type in my response or put in my ratings or even switch to the next page, I'm going to have to wait forever and ever for the next page to come up. That gives me plenty of time to talk with my friends who are online too. When I don't do the IM thing or if my friends aren't online, I sometimes read and answer my emails to get caught up with all of that too. I don't play games though because I don't know how to play freecell and stuff like that. The only game I really know how to play is solitaire and I always watch the timer on that so then I can't pause it. If there's nothing to do on the computer for whatever reason, then sometimes I get laundry going or actually cook and do other chores around the house.

‘visiting’ the kitchen and stirring that pot seems to be the best for us when the lot’s taking a nap LOL…I too do that and sometimes even my cooking is completed while I am mylotting! Cable is definitely faster but sometimes I guess the mylot server itself is slow…I have seen other pages open up readily but mylot’s sulking somehow! Catching up with friends and replying to mails is another good option…I always have my yahoo open at the background…that way I can know if somebody has responded to my comment and I try and answer back.

well i have other sites and still post to them if other sites are hanging up. sometimes internet providers are disgusting. we pay the right amount but they're not doing same good service in return.

Talk of service…beginning of this month we had one of our most ferocious thunderstorms and of course, all the lines were down…you cant believe the number of days they took to get the line up and working, and the excuses they give! I too surf the net while the lot is slow…I’ve come across some amazing sites this way…lot of info and entertainment.

mylot - blue mylot
Oh yeah, I do homework, listen to music, look up other crap online, watch tv, clean, move around because of sitting so long. I think it's impossible to not do at least one thing while you're mylotting, but if you can, that's insane.

Exactly, with the keyboard in front, its kind of difficult to rein in your fingers…we always fidget with new search words, other pages, lots of info out there and of course our person work is there too.

I am always doing that... like right now... while mylotting... i am trying to book a flight for two of myself and two of my friends... or i would be doing some of my other internet earning schemes... mylot can be slow at times... and i try to be more productive by doing other things while the page is loading...

Yes, sometimes I am just glad that the lot is slow…its like the TV commercials, it gives us time to catch up on other things. If I am at home, I’ll go check the kitchen if anything needs my attention or if I am at office and have not work as such, I’ll go take a walk and stretch my limbs a little.

I actually do it the other way around. If I do something online, I try to put in myLot in between tasks :D I don't have to wait for myLot for anything because I'm generally concentrated on something else. Thanks for the response on my discussion :)
• India

So does that mean, the mylot page is open all the time in the background! Never thought of this…so actually I can switch on to some tasks and mylot and to the tasks again…so if one is slow, the other keeps you occupied!

I work! Yes i do all that i can offline when my the progress bar seems to be stuck. Or i'll leave the PC and probably visit the kitchen or the loo, finish other works and then get back. My mom's like you. She plays downloaded games and then rechecks the website. Then she will try to minimize-maximize, refresh the page and a few other tricks her friends have taught her - LOL :)
• India
16 Jun 09
Tell her to pass on some tricks for us here! I love gathering all the knowledge I can, one doesn’t know what comes handy when! But I’ll agree, at home mylot hanging up is like the commercial breaks on TV…you can actually finish cooking or stirring or freshening up while the page reloads or (in case of TV soap) the next episode starts

That happenes to me a lot too. I ususally listen to music while I'm on here, but if the server is really slow which is all the time because I have dial-up, I end up trying to find other things to do. Sometimes I do some laundry or a little housecleaning. Other times I'll go out and take my dog for a nice long walk just to get away for a while. If I have a craft project I have been working on I'll even pull that out sometimes and work on it a little bit. I used to like to throw together some cookies or do a little bit of baking in between but once I got into doing a lot of that I ended up having to walk my dog an awful lot just to burn off all the calories from all the sweets I was eating, lol.

Oh well, yes the time in between acts almost like a commercial break in TV sitcoms and I too can almost finish my cooking, if there is any going on. Apart from that I make good use by going to other sites (some mentioned here) and gathering info.

Hi Bear, Its been a long long time I have come across you...I hope everything is OK with you...so you too do a lot of things while mylotting. I do the same, I even visit the kitchen if something is cooking and go stir it. I can even go and watch a program on TV if mylot is that slow!

i think that happens more when your on dial-up. i usually takes breaks anyway from mylot off and on and go get coffee, have a cig. outside, do a little cleaning up here and there. in fact most days either mylot is on my pc or club pogo and i go back and forth to my pc, taking breaks in between. glad i no longer have to deal with dial-up.

I also get up and take a break, usually when I am at office. As it is I have other work to do so I am sitting at my desk continuously and I take the break as an opportunity to stretch my legs.

Hi Sudipta I do not have internet connection at my home so i log on to mylot during office hours. After completing the work i log on to mylot and read and write here.If mylot is slow during that time i read the newspaper which always lies beside me or play solitaire which is my favorite card game.

Yes, solitaire is a good game to kill time but I cant really solve most of them...I play free cell instead or spider solitaire.

Since I als work online, I do a lot of other things while keeping my Mylot window on, just to make sure I get to respond to the latest discussions. When it takes a lot of time to load, I don't get easily pissed off, since there's more to do, and I get to earn equally, or even more.

So its good for you when the server is slow...you can actually visit other sites and earn some more...yeah I know, sometimes when the server is very fast, I cant keep pace with it, if I am doing something else.
