Questions on post-op care

Some of you may know I had an appendectomy last Saturday. I'm going pretty good but I'm not eating well because my stomach has no appetite. It feels rather blah and heavy. I used to be constantly ravenous so this is a blessing but I'm wondering if it's normal? I ate a piece of toast this morning and it made me nauseous for a bit. Another question is wound care. I get my staples out on Tuesday. They told me I can change the dressing and I do it daily because by morning it is soaked with blood and liquid. The wound itself doesn't appear to be bleeding but the edges, some of them, don't seem to be healing. There doesn't appear to be any pus but it just doesn't look right to me. What do you think think? Should I wait till Tuesday or go have a clinic take a look at it today?

If you are still on any types of pain medications you are not going to want to eat that much and you could get sick to your stomach. so I would say that is quite normal with this type of procedure. as far as your wound if it is draining that much you should contact your doctor to make certain that it is normal and that you do not need to have it seen. Is it red around the incision site? With things like this it is always best to go back to the doctor than to risk an infection.

Thanks. It's not red around the site, it looks nice and healthy just draining and slightly bloody. I hope my appetite doesn't come back! I have to go out soon so haven't taken anything since I got up this morning and I'm still not hungry. What a wonderful thing that would be, I'm used to being constantly hungry and it's not at all pleasant or healthy!
