The refigerator in our room keeps getting frozen. The freezer tends to ice up very badly. It gets so iced up to the point that we are unable to open the freezer area on the fridge. So, this has happened twice since we have been at the motel. The first time, the maintenance man came and took it out and gave us another refigerator. Now, it has has happened again, and the second time, he told me that they can't just give me another refigerator because it keeps getting iced up. He told me that I will have to get me a cooler, and sit my food in, out of the refigerator. While doing this, I he would take my refigerator and put it on the outside to let it unthaw. He told me that I would have to get some towels to sit the fridge on while the ice is melting from the freezer. So, yesterday, the other guy came back within an hour and he told me that he was going to give me another refigerator. And it comes to find out that this refigerator appeared to be brand new. He took the Energy Guide sign off and some plastic. It smells and feels brand new from my observation. The maintenance man told me also that they can't give me another one, because the same thing will just keep happening like it did with all the other ones. So, if I get another one, the same thing will continue to happen and there was no need for me to have another one. So, as a guest, is it my responsibility is get towels and let the fridge sit outside and unthaw it outside? While all of my food is inside of the cooler? There was two guys present yesterday when I asked about the refigerator being swapped out. The other guy whom was nice came back and gave me another refigerator, while the other guy told me that they can't do that.. If I was home, I may unthaw it like that, but since I am a guest at this motel, I feel that it is the motel's responsiblity to furnish anything that I may need. The refigerator that I have now, has a knob where I can turn the temparture up to the point of my preference. So, that way, I can monitior how cool I want it to be. Doing this will avoid the freezer from getting too iced up. The other two refigerators did not have this knob on it. This is my third refigerator at this time. The other two seemed to get iced up very quickly without any knobs rotating the temparture on it. I was also wondering, since he told me to unthaw the refigerator outside, I wonder whom towels will I be using? I mean, I don't have any old ones of my own. And, I am pretty sure that the manager would not go for us using their good towels to sit the refigerator on to unthaw out. Is this maintenance guy sure of his job procedure? That seems unprofessional for a guest to carry out. it seems like this should be his job to do since I am a guest at this motel.

I suppose that what you expect of a motel depends on how much you are paying for the room. The star concept depends on a certain amount of things a room has to have in good working order. Why don´t you ask for the manger and tell him of your problems? If the maintenance guy is not doing his job properly according to you, he should know. I had a problem at a good hotel in Brasil .I finally talkked with the manager. The manager tried to give little importance to my problems until I told him that I had taked pictures and would write a letter to the hotel chain. His way of addresing me changed then, he put us in another room and gave me for half the price a room for 2 days more we needed to be there. I hate to do that, but sometimes it´s not posible in another way. If you are paying for a room, you can´t work there for free at unthawing fridges Take care

I believe the maintainence of the refrigerator would be the responsibility of the motel. It is their equipment, not yours. You are paying for the service. They have an obligation to perform the service. Hopefully, this brand new (third) piece of equipment will perform properly. If it doesn't, notify the manager. If he does not take care of the situation to your satisfaction, notify the motel OWNER(s).

Hi, royal52gens! Yes, I will do that. The fridge is working much better. Too bad, I won't be staying there too long to enjoy it. But, I am happy for that. I don't want to get too comfortable using their fridge. I would rather have my own.

Of course this is the job and responsibility of the hotel. They must get someone that works there to do it. It is not your responsibility as you pay them for all of the convienences that are provided from staying at a motel , hotel or any other establishment. This is the case unless the frig belongs to you, but since it is theirs it's their responsibility.

wow! no it is not your responsibility. the hotel should remove it from your room - provide you with the cooler if necessary and the ice to keep it cold... they should provide all maintanence for the defective appliance and replace it for you as soon as possible. it is not your fault that they purchased faulty appliances. They should be apologetic to you for your inconvenience and not inconveniencing you even more.

What kind of refrigerator are you using at that motel? Refrigerator have two kinds, for example, when you go to super market, you would see the island refrigerator, this is for freezing, and the other is the cabinet refrigerator, this is only for cool. Maybe you put something that need freezing into the cool model refrigerator, so that you feel the refrigerator is iced up. Maybe i am misunderstanding your word, if so, please forgive my mistake. I think the maintain person attitude is not so better, at least they should solve your problem utterly.

No, this is not your responsibility. You are a paying guest and they should be required to keep everything in working order for you. I'm thinking these people that run this motel need to be reported to the better business bureau in the area when you get ready to check out completely. Some of the things they have and are doing to you are very unbusiness like.

no,that shouldn't be your responsibility at all. what if you were elderly and hurt yourself lifting that fridge? sounds like their old fridges were pieces of crap. as far as towels go,yes i would use theirs. i would just repeat to front desk what maintenance told me to do,and since they can't fix the problem,i will need to use their towels for the water. what you can also do to minimize the towels is defrost it at an angle in the bathtub so the water will drain down the drain instead.

Well first of all you are a paying guest of this motel, and when you paid for this room I'm assuming that you asked for room with a refrigerator, and that you expected that the amenities of the room would be working properly, so It is certainly not your responsibility to fix anything it is in fact the motel or hotel owners responsibility to have there maintenance person fix things not you, believe me I have done a lot of traveling, and its not right for the motel maintenance worker or management to expect there paying customers to fix things in the room, in my opinion, you should contact management, and let them know what the maintenance worker has told you, and ask that they replace or fix this refrigerator right away and hopfully this situation will be resolved.

wow, that's tough. and really unprofessional. Then again, it's just a motel. just don't set the freezer up too high, that causes those unwanted icing up. and don't put wet things in it. I told you some prevention tips because there's nothing you can do about it, really, so you just have to deal with it. or just stay at another motel.

I agree with the other posters here it is not your responsibility it is 100% the hotels responsibility to make sure all items are in good and safe working order. You should definitely contact the hotel manager and explain the situation because the maintenance man is just too lazy to do his job in which case he should not be working there at all. What the maintenance man told you to do is 100% wrong if you were to have moved that refrigerator and gotten hurt you could so the hotel/motel for damages. The management sure would not be happy with that. They should know because if the lazy man tells someone else to do this they could get hurt.
