Do chestnuts count as a fruit, probably not, but there is nothing better on a miserable day than chestnuts cooked on top of the woodburner, peeled and dipped in salt. Just have to put up with the burnt fingers. The fruit which ripens here in the winter is olives but they are not ready to eat for a few months.

I don't know, after you asked, I can't think any fruits that is particularly good in winter. Fruits like apples, oranges and banannas are good in whole year, and watermelons are good in summer. I think I eat apples and oranges more in winter as no special fruits are available in winter.

For me,oranges are my favourite fruit in winter. For they have brightly coloured skins, juicy segmented flesh and high Vitamin C content. They taste good and can be available at a low price in winter.

carrots aren't exactly fruit but i like them in winter because you can make a sweet carrot cake outta them :). And as fruit go i love all the sweet ones with a harder texture e.g. apples i love biting into a cold apple its awesome.
