Do you regularly give to agencies that help feed people?

About two years ago, my husband and I were facing really bad times. It got to the point that we needed to go on food stamps and we were literally a few days away from losing our home (we rented). Then (and still now), jobs are extremely scarce in our area of North Carolina. Thankfully, though, my husband was able to find a job after a month and a half of being on food stamps, and we could get off of that program. In our area, we have a Christian Crisis Center, which helps with food and clothing. Even though they are Christian, they do not preach to you or anything of that nature. They make you feel comfortable, regardless of your situation. And when they have the donations, they can even help pay $50-$100 for your water or electric bill (once a year), to help you out. About 6 months ago, we moved and now we are literally several doors down from the crisis center. In order to give back as a Thank You, every time I go to the grocery store, I spend $1.00 to $3.00 and buy canned foods, instant potatoes, fresh veggies and fruits, etc. Then they get dropped off at the center. I have given away them all the clothes that no longer fit or I don't wear. *grins* I've even seen one of my shirts on a lady a few weeks back! You can buy a lot of canned vegetables with just $3.00. I think if everyone did that, every time they went to the store, then there would be a lot of food going to those in need. Do you give regularly to help the homeless or those affected by the current recession? When was the last time you gave food or clothing to a crisis center (or similar)?

I always give to them, every chance that i get. There are several types of organizations around here that accept food for the shelters. Our local Wal Mart is now taking canned food for the shelters. It is noce to be able to help others even when you wonder what you are gonna do next.
