What are your hiccup cures? I've heard of the following: 1. Holding your breath. 2. Popping something to frighten the hiccup away. 3. Drinking water. 4. Opening your mouth. I usually just go for holding my breath.

the cure for my hiccups is a glass of water. many people in India say that when someone remembers you, you get hiccups.( it is a supersition). the remedy for such a hiccup is to remember the names of the people whom you think can think of you. once you take the name of the peron who was remembering you, your hiccups would stop.

That's a nice superstition. I'd definitely think the name of the person I love whenever I'm having hiccups hahahahahahahahaha

abanerji I love the thought of that and will try that the next time that I get the hiccups. But up till now I have always tried using 1 teaspoon of sugar in a little warm water and then put this solution on the back of the tongue . . if that doesnt work I have heard that a teaspoon of honey will work out as well. I think that thinking of someone who may be thinking of me is kinda the same thing as the honey!!!

i know I have been doing for at least 10 years and it has worked I would say 9 times out of 10. Unfotunatly it seems I get the hiccups when I am alone rather than with someone :)

I usually hold my breath. But I'm told you should overwhelm the vagus nerve with another sensation. The vagus nerve sends a signal to the brain. Have a teaspoon of sugar, place it at the back of the tongue where sour is tasted. Put your fingers in your ears.... but not too far. (the vagus nerve also branches into the auditory system) I've also heard pulling out your tongue and yanking on it. I've also heard eating fast can cause hiccups so eat slower. I'm sure there's many more. Regards

Wow some are weird but others are logical, would like to try them if I have hiccups, except for pulling out my tongue hahaha..

Most of the time I drink water to get rid of the hiccups. I have held my breath a couple of time and it has worked to. So I try either one to see what one works better at times. If one doesn't work I go with the other one to see if it will work for me.

Well I have also heard of the same as you. I always drink water and the hiccups stop. Sometimes if it doesn't go away then you have to take lots of water together and that make it go away. :s Strange? But it worked for me :D

How long you can hold your breathe upto? I can only hold it for a minute. I have to hold it for more than 5 times so that my hiccups get cured, agan but it is always good for first two or three hiccups because if it gets stopped right at the begining, it is okay but if it is not, it takes longer than usual!
