Have you neutered and speyed your dogs? We recently bought 2 new retriever puppies and when they are old enough we will have them neutered. Do you think this is fair to the animal?

I think it is very fair. I have six dogs, my only male is neutered, and my little chihuahua has been spayed. I had the male Boson Terrier neutered, much to my husbands disgust and horror because he was driving himself into an early grave trying to get to the four females that come into heat at different times. Bo, my male was nothing but skin and bones. He was jumping a six-foot gate, then going over another gate to get to the girls. It just wasn't worth watching him suffer. I told my husband if he wanted to breed the girls, he could find a stud dog somewhere. I did not want another fertile male on the property. I believe pets are happier when they don't have that instinct raging in them to mate. Unless they are allowed too mate.

I do agree Susan, We had our Male Chow Chow neutered, he was going nuts when the older girls were in season, whining all night and scatching at the door to get at them, he did manage to get at one of them a few years back and we took her to the Vet for an injection to stop any pregnancy. Wasn't pleasant for her having a damn great needle in her back, we then decided to have the girls spayed, now they all live happily together. The 2 new retrievers will be spayed once they've had their first season, or thats when the Vet has told us to do it.
