Years ago, everyone wore an apron to protect their clothing from stains when they cooked. I remembering having many aprons when I was a young woman. But as the years went by, I wore them less and less often. I'm not sure why, but it seems that aprons are no longer worn very often. Do you wear an apron when you cook? If not, did you used to? I wonder why they went out of style. Karen

. I own an apron and its very pretty. There is an embroidery on it. My mom did it but I don't use it because I don't cook. In short I've never used it yet. My mom on the other hand has an apron and she always use an apron when she's cooking. She never misses to use it because she doesn't want her clothes to be stained when cooking.

Normally when I cook I try not to wear anything nice. I find that I wear my clothes that I bum around that house in. So if I do happen to get a stain on my clothes I'm not too worried about it. I was never a big fan of aprons. When I took Home Economics in school I had to wear an apron for the class. But that's the only time I have worn an apron. I do own an apron tho. I let my son wear it when he helps me cook.

Kids do love aprons, or anything that makes them feel a bit grown up. I have an apron with special pockets that hold clothes pins for when I line dry the laundry. My granddaughter loves to be the one wearing it for that, or she wears it to play "restaurant" with her being the waitress. I am not sure why I quit wearing one to cook, but it has been many years since I've done so. Thank you for responding : ) Karen

Hello PeacefulWmn9! I always make sure that I wear an apron when cooking. Cooking can be very messy at times. I do not want my clothes to get stained of course. So, I would rather wear an apron no matter how funny-looking the apron is rather than have my clothes messed up.

Hi, PeacefulWmn9. No. I don't wear an apron. I would like to buy one though. I agree, I hardly see that many people wearing an apron, not unless they are an chef or a cook of some sort. Wearing an apron while preparing certain foods is a must-to-have-essential!

I always wore an apron when I was a child. I wore a uniform and as soon as I got home, I had to put on the apron. I hated it. When I got married, many people gave me aprons as gifts. I placed them deep in a dreawer and gave them away little by little to apron loving people. At some point my family and friends discovered that I would never use an apron so noone gave me one anymore.

apron black - apron while cooking
No, I don't wear apron when I cook food. But i do wear one when I was just a beginner, because I was too clumsy. But now, I just use my apron when I wash load of dishes, and when I clean the kitchen. It is more appropriate for me to wear the apron while cleaning because my clothes becomes so dirty after doing the chores.

I seldom cook but the times I do I do not wear aprons. My mom never wears apron as well. I think, here we are accustomed like that. Having said this, my sisters do. Yes they still. They find it easier with their dress getting less spoiled.

I believe most women or anyone cooking used to wear aprons, but not much now. The way we are dressed when we cook has changed a lot over the years. Thank you for contributing to the discussion :) Karen

Nope, I wear whatever I'm wearing when I woke up that day and get cookin'. Normally there's not much I can stain my clothes with, and normally what I wear around the house is OK with being stained anyways. Never used to wear one either.

I am thinking aprons might have been popular in days when women wore "house" dresses. Probably to protect the dress. Now that that has changed, so has the tendancy to wear aprons. Thank you for responding. Karen

It's been my habit to wear an apron in the kitchen, regardless of what I do. I wear an apron when cooking or washing the dishes =D my mommy is most of the time a strict person (but I love her for that) and she'll definitely tell us to wear an apron if we don't wear it so I've become used to it. She checks everything: she makes sure my hair is all tied up when cooking, I have my apron, I use the measuring cup.. things like that.. =D

I no longer wear an apron either, but yes, they would protect clothing. I can't stand going around with spattered food, etc., even on casual clothes, so change them when that happens. Karen

sometimes i wear sometimes not, because i am not a messy person, and i tried not to mess on my shirt, since i study Hotel and Restaurant Management and food trades on Technological skills and development authority, the teacher instruct us to wear apron or chef uniform and hair neat, to be neat and uniform and feels comfortable when you are cooking and avoid contamination in the food.

Yes, when for your job, I imagine the apron serves a great purpose. Most chefs, waiters, and waitresses do wear them. Thank you for commenting :D Karen

karen, how are you? i do wear apron still especially if i am frying so as not to stain my dress with oil. you think it is getting out of date now? probably the new gadgets and appliances is one reason. before we often cook in open fire.. a gas range.. now its oven, and microwave.. etc so less spill over and easy to handle. hence, the apron is not much of use.. you agree? ann

Hi Ann...I am good, thank you, and I hope you are too. Yes, I do agree. Cooking ways have changed, and less open fires means less messes? Thank you for responding. Karen

I only wear an apron when I am baking. I am often multi-tasking and I find that the mixer tends to splatter when I am not paying attention. I don't feel the need to wear an apron when I am just cooking. Like the other posters on here, I don't wear anything too nice when I am cooking, so I don't have to worry about splashing or stains. I think aprons went out of style for that very reason!

You could be right. When home, we no longer wear dresses and such as women in past generations did. Good point! Thank you :) Karen

I own one apron and I love it. it's made of oilcloth, kind of vintage, and has 2 contrasting prints- pink gingham and black lace. I wish it had pockets. I like it a lot.

I do wear apron while cooking. I think it is good to wear apron while cooking. Apron helps to prevent food stains and other things. Most people who do cooking in our place do wear apron.
