Do you use a regular credit card or a prepaid card for shopping online?

I thank its much safer to shop with a prepaid credit card becuse theres no worry of overdraft fees, and what ever site your paying cant take more then whats available on that card, and with reguler credit cards you risk some site taking more then what you thought, and you never know someone could be massing up your credit, so for me I prefer using prepaid cards, well how about you?

Well, if you're careful and don't spend too much, you don't have to worry about any overdraft fees and any company can end up overcharging you, even if you use a prepaid card. And most banks protect you from fraud and identity theft when you use your credit card. Not sure how anyone can "mass" up your credit. Maybe you meant mess up. *shrug* Anyway, to answer your question, I usually use either my credit card or my debit card.

Right. I KNOW you won't get charged any overdraft fees with a prepaid card. What I was trying to say is: What if you put $20 on the card, but buy something that's $10? The company can still overcharge you or make the mistake of charging you twice or whatever. That was one of your concerns, right? I get what you're saying, though. It's just sometimes hard to plan what you're going to spend. You know?

Yes thats true, if you put $20 on a prepaid card and you spend $10 they will take an extra dollar or two leaving you with probably $8 or $9 dollars left on your card, but regular cards sometimes charge twice that amont, and if you miss a payment that amount will double until its paid, so I dont mind a small transaction fee, becuse its better then worrying about extremely high overdraft fees and possibly massing up your credit.

Well with the prepaid card I use there is no overdraft fees becuse if you only load the card with the amount you plan to spend and the card will only allow the site or company to take up to the amount thats loaded in the card, and if there is not enough money on the card the transaction will not go through, so theres no overdrafts, but it also depends on the type of prepaid card you use I like mine Iv had only good experincs so far using my prepaid card.

credit cards - different credit cards
When I order things online, I use my regular credit card, and I think I should really get a prepaid. I just recently had to pay an overdraft fee, and that sucks just because the daily fees keep adding up everyday. I got charged because I was over by about two dollars...funny huh. Prepaids are definately worth it.

Yup I think that prepaid cards are a lot better for shopping online then using those regular credit cards, I have had a lot of unpleasant experiences with using regular credit cards, becuse those overdraft fees keep rising up every time you use them, but its not like that with prepaid credit cards you just load them and use the amount thats loaded in the card, and thats pretty much it.

I use a regular credit card. I'm not too worried because my credit card company will not charge me if someone else uses my credit card information to purchase items. Once I got my statement (about ten years ago), and there was a charge on there for something I never bought. The credit card company took it off my bill, launched an investigation, and gave me a new card with a new credit card number.

Well I'm glad to read that your experience in using regular cards are good ones but Iv had a lot of unpleasant experiences with credit card company's and using regular credit cards, so thats also why I prefer using prepaid credit cards, becuse any company or website can only take whats loaded on that card, so theres no overdraft fees, and if a company or site tries to take more then whats on that card the transaction will not go through, so for me I think prepaid credit cards are a bit safer then using regular forms of credit for shopping online.

I usually use paypal if I can but I have used a credit card before. That's a great idea to use a prepaid card..to be honest I had nevr thought of that before. It would be safer. Thanks for the idea! Great post!

Yes prepaid credit cards I feel are much safer becuse you load them with only the amount you choose to spend and theres no overdraft fees theres usually only a small traction fee of a dollar or two, and you can do all the same things that you can do with a regular credit card.

Personally I always advice anyone never to use any form of credit card directly to shop as your details are bound to be copied and stolen so its best to connect your card to paypal as its the safest way to shop online. If the merchant doesn't buy or sell using paypal then its never a good idea to use your card directly. At least with paypal your details are safe and if something goes wrong you can always open a dispute case which paypal will always help sort you out. So whether its a prepaid credit card or regular one, not a good idea to use it just like that. I always use paypal to shop online.. If the merchant has no paypal method then I will never buy the product..

Yes but if someone tries to take more money from your paypal account by using your paypal credit card info and they take more then what you have available in that account then your stuck with overdraft fees, but if you use a prepaid credit card they can only take the amount that is loaded on that card, becuse if a site or company tries to go over that amount the transaction will not go through, so in my pinion a prepaid card is a bit safer then using any other standard credit card, and Iv seen and responded to discussions here where people have complained that there paypal accounts got hacked, I dont know what the whole situation is with that, but my point is there really isen't any form of payment that is completely safe, to use online, but there are safer ways to shop on line and I think its much safer to use a prepaid card.

As far as possible, I try to avoid using my credit card when doing online purchase. I feel the internet banking offered by a bank is more safer. I only use my credit card on a reputable sites and that too after searching for any related scams associated with that web site.

You have some good points, but in my experience using a prepaid card is much better then using any form of standard credit card, becuse I dont have to worry much about overdraft fees paypal credit cards has over draft fees if you spend to much, and with a prepaid card you only spend what you have loaded on your card and no company can take more then whats available on that card, for example if you load a prepaid card with $30 dollars and the site tries to take $40 the transaction wont go through, so no worries about massing up your credit.

I use a debit card from our bank. I'm very careful to check that the proper charges are put on it and that I don't run over. I'd rather use that then a credit card b/c I know I'd spend more than I have with a credit card. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

Normally if i make some online shopping i prefer two types of payments such as Pre paid card as well but also electronic account as paypal, alertpay and so on...i think may be for some sites you are buying both are ok may be when u use electronic accounts will be even safe because you can use as well your prepaid card but you it is not important to specify your card number directly..so in some cases can be a security mesure in plus!!As regards fast payments i think both suitable..so in many cases depends from habits and tastes..

Yes prepaid cards are great becuse you cant spend more then what you have available on the card, and with some prepaid credit cards, you can even rant a car pay bills and other stuff with them, and theres no worries about overdraft fees, theres usually only a small transaction fee, of about $1.00 or $2.00 with most prepaid, and also theres no monthly fees, I like prepaid cards a bit better then regular credit cards.
