What do u do when you are nervous or anxious??How can I get rid of this habit?

Hi All!! When ever I am nervous or anxious I am in a habit of biting nails...I know it is a very harmful.I may fall sick.And a sort of ill manner too.But I just cannot stop biting nails.. Do you ever suffer from this problem??? Right now,I want to get rid of this habit... What do you do when you are either nervous or anxious????I was just wondering...

I've never been a nail biter. I can remember my mother telling me the boys wouldn't like me if I bit my nails. During my teen years and beyond, I was very athletic. Always had long nails and kept them groomed. I still have those real long nails and they are all mine. When they get too long to type, I trim them. I can remember someone saying they put pepper on their nails and they quit biting them. Don't know if it actually works. Would think it would make a person sneeze like crazy. There use to be a product that was sold in the pharmacy that would help biters stop biting their nails. Don't know if that works either or if it's still being sold.

Whenever I get nervous or anxious, my palms sweats heavily and the feet as well as my palms become cold.As a result I use a hanky to wipe off the sweat.... I am in a habit of biting nails too...But it only happens when the situation is very intense or a situation like no where to run... My face also turn red sometimes when I am in a tense situation... I have notice that some breathing exercises,which I have learned from a yoga teacher in my school days help me a lot to maintain calmness..I prefer taking a deep breath if I am nervous.

I run my hand through my hair when i'm nervous. I think the first thing to do when you have a habit is to consciously try to stop it. After a few days of this i think the habit will go away. But it is really hard to consciously try not to do it

Hi. WHen i get nervous or anxious, my hands and palms sweat more than they do, naturally. I learned from my nursing courses that taking deep breaths can alleviate your anxiety. Your need to breathe in (deep) through your nose and hold it for 3 seconds --to let oxygen perforate thus aiding oxygen circulation -- then, exhales through your mouth as in your blowing through a straw (called pursed breathing). By doing these a couple of times, you allow your body to have more oxygen that it needs...plus, concentrating on doing your breathing correctly can distract you from thinking of biting on your nails. I hope this helps you...
