I didn't list it in parenting or children or anything because I think more people will read it here. My husband, my two sons and I went to a party at a friend's house. Hubby and various friends promised to watch my two sons, aged 3 and 4, and I was fine with that because the 4 year old wouldn't even go off the first step of the pool. The 3 yr old, however, was a fearless daredevil and it was only a matter of time before he came to a bad end before he was 3o! I was at the window, watching my sons, sipping a drink and talking with friends. I thought I was seeing everything. But suddenly our friend Dave Toczek was diving into the pool and he came up with my youngest song, who was sputtering and gasping. I WAS WATCHING THE POOL!!!!!! But I didn't see my son step off the riser and launch himself into the deep water. I was confident that at least a dozen others were watching my kids and I could have a couple of drinks. Turns out, Dave was the only one who noticed Jack struggling as he sunk into the pool. Out of 20 peopled, only ONE PERSON NOTICED!! Not even his mother.. PLEASE WATCH YOUR CHILDREN!! DON'T TRUST ANYONE TO WATCH YOUR CHILDREN WHEN THERE IS WATER AROUND. I ALMOST LOST MY CHILD AND IF NOT FOR OUR FAMILY FRIEND I WOULD HAVE. Rivers, streams, ponds, pools--they are all deathtraps for children. Cramps, panic, anything can lead to drowning. Don't let temporary entertainment or pleasure set you up for a lifetime of guilt and regret. Be sure that your child is supervised closely. Even a child as old as 12-14 can drown. Please don't put yourself through this. My child survived, thank God and thank Dave. Will yours? Prioritize!!! KIDS AND FAMILY FIRST IN ANY CASE!! Screw the gossip, flirtation, man or woman surfing, job networking. Please prioritize. Kids come first. I'm posting this because we've had 2 child drownings in the last week here in Ohio. My sons survived, thank God, mostly because of that scare and because one of our friends cared enough to really and truly watch our children.

Hi! I exactly feel what and how you feel. I just want to share my story. Just 5 hours ago, my daughter fell on the pool. Before she fell, i noticed then that my sister and she were just swimming together. I really haven't noticed my sister swam to the other side of the pool, or my daughter sitting at that moment to the opposite side of the pool near to where I stayed. While i was talking to my friend, who invited us to the pool, I was bothered to noticed at the back of my friend that someone is trying to swim. I had a haunch then. When i looked at the other side of the pool, I saw my younger sister swimming. I had a feeling that it might be my daughter, who I thought was with my sister. I immediately stood up without saying anything and tried to come closer to my child to get her out. Thank God I didn't panic! Good that I didn't just stand there and do nothing. It really hurts me, until this very moment, when I saw her drowning, trying harder to breath air and reaching for the pool side. I tried to extend my hand over her, to reach her, coz she's just 1-2 feet away from my reach. But because I was shocked and wanted to get her out ASAP, I slipped and immersed myself to the pool, hurting my left hand (sprained). I didn't mind the pain. I'm very happy and relieved to save her. I hugged her tight and made sure that she's safe with me. She was trembling. I can really feel she's afraid. She cried and told me that she wanted to go home. She felt embarrassed as well coz the people were staring at us. I felt my heart was stabbed! To think there are 2 people in the pool, 11 people near the pool, but only I noticed her drowning. And I am very much thankful to have noticed her. Thank you Lord! I hate the life guard coz he's not doing his job. He stays far from the pool, entertaining women and taking their pictures. Until now I am bothered. Haven't reported yet the incident to the hotel's manager. But I will then hopefully tomorrow. I don't want another accident to happen. Poor children. They are there to play, and not be victims. My daughter is only 3 years and 10 months old. I know she liked water and pool a lot. She always asked us to go on swimming. I don't like her to be afraid or be traumatized to water. Until now, I still can remember exactly the way I looked at her before I saved her from drowning. I pitied her and she doesn't deserved it! Here I am blaming myself for not carefully monitoring her. Let's keep our children away from the pool. If not, then let's watch them closely and never allow a single accident to happen to them.

That is why it is so important to always have one person keep a close eye out on the kids. I've heard a saying that just because there are a lot of people around doesn't mean they are paying attention to what is going on, and your case certainly proves it. If you can't watch the kids yourself find ONE responsible person who WILL keep tabs on your children. Because you just never know what will happen. Thanks for sharing your story. Hopefully others can learn from it.

My kids were NEVER alone around water after that and I was always the one watching. I never trusted anyone to watch them in such a dangerous situation after that. It was a good lesson learned cheaply, thank God. But it's summer and I almost cry when I think of all the kids that will drown and die in hot cars.

That's why I wouldn't even allow a child that young around a pool unless I was in it with them. They're too young for it to be safe without an adult right there.
