way too much. I understand if companies are fining people who illegally downloaded their music online. They have to protect their business. But it hits hard those who get caught. being fined like $30,000 is already big enough money to pay for just downloading some music which will not cost much if we buy them. But here it is. a court decided that the woman should pay $1.92 million cause the company doesn't want to enter into a settlement . What do you think of this scenario? Aren't the company trying to use their right way too much and try to gain for whatever losses they have incurred because of piracy over some guilty of doing it. I just feel pity towards this woman. i think that the company just want to earn a lot of money and so they are trying to do this.

I don't think the high fine is for the music as much as it is to get ppl to quit doing it. They figure if they make the punishment harsh enough ppl will quit. I don't know though, sometimes it does seem like just another way for the music industry to make a buck. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

Yes,I think this is way too much. Untill and unless we have really stringent global laws against piracy, such things are bound to happen anywhere on the net. Not all countries share the same set of laws and what's illegal to you might be perfectly legal in my country. Even if there are globally acknowledged anti-piracy laws, few common people actually know of them. Warnings on the site's pages are usually a part of a very lengthy set of infos (which few bother to read)...and yo know what? Its the small fries that always get caught. People who actually rake in the moolah and become rich, knows of ways to evade the law.

While I do agree that it is crazy to fine this woman an amount that she will never be able to pay I'm in no way sympathetic toward her for breaking the law. It's no different than if any of us on here set up a lemonade stand on our street to make a little spending money only to have customers walk away with a cup of lemonade without paying for it. It's still stealing and it's still wrong. Just because thousands or even millions of people illegally download music and movies everyday without getting caught doesn't make it ok. If we're not going to enforce the laws then what's the point of having them? Yeah, the fine was rediculous. They should fine her a more attainable amount or put her in jail or both. Either way, I most certainly do not feel sorry for her. She deserved to get caught and she did.

I think thats completely mad! Unless this woman is some big time business woman herself she will never be able to pay it off anyway! What is the point of that. I have no idea why any court would even agree to order a fine of that amount anyway. Maybe it is just for publicity in order to scare off other people from downloading illegally.

that is so impeccably wrong for fined of million just a song or a music you just download, well they should fine the peer of the download site where she download that song because its not her fault maybe there were no one to download that if there's a post that the song is restricted from downloading that if you download it is non downlodable wright, they just use that to corrupt some money for people that is innocent in this kind of music damn....

Wow, this amount is simply shocking! I think the record companies are now trying to scare people into buying their music instead of downloading it online. I think that is too extreme for the results they are trying to achieve because regardless of the penalty, there will always be people who illegally download music through the Internet.

From what I read the company offered to settle, and are still willing to accept a smaller sum in settlement. Would also point out that it wasn't the first time she had been caught uploading. Saying that everyone knows it is illegal so there has to be consequences otherwise everyone would do it and then nothing new would be created be it film, music or any other form of media.
