To my mylot friends a few questions that I would love your opinion on.If you are moving to PR from New Mexico would you sell your furniture or have it shipped to PR? I'm going back and forth about either selling or renting my house out because the market to sell is not good. However, if you decide to sell the house in NM would you include the furniture in the sell of the house if you didn't want the expense of shipping? Thanks to all!

Personally I would sell pretty much everything....the cost of shipping especially furniture i would think would be astronomical..... where about in Puerto Rico are you moving to? We are considering moving there too....to the Aguadilla area...

My husband has family there and really wants to go....I on the other hand really dont want to live there....its a wonderful place to visit but....so we are up in the air too right now but if we go it will be in the next couple of months....I am just scared to go because we were there in 1993 for 6 months and no one there spoke any english and I was pretty alone except for my husband.....and the only thing on tv in english was sesame street...lol...i know you can get satelite and stuff there but we stayed with his mom then and thats all she had....it was just really uncomfortable for me... and now my daughter is in high school so i am worried about how she would get along there as well with school and everything...

Well that is the airport I would arrive in but the town is Cabo Rojo. I have now decided if someone wants to buy my house I will include the furniture in the price to get the price I want. Just take my personal stuff. If you decide to go when would you be moving? I hope to be gone by now next year. Though it depends on the sale of the house. If I can't sale it I could hire a property manager to take care of it and rent it out. Then I can have income coming in. Keep it for a few more years till the market gets better and than sale. Good luck in your decision and thank you for responding!

Well I don't speak spanish either. I think I understand more than less. However my boyfriend speaks the language. The stores have both spanish and english speaking employees. As for the schools I think they have both english and spanish. I'm sure there is a way online to check into that before you go. My boyfriend is living there now and his family is there. I love it and I just think life is easier there. My boyfriends niece goes to school and she has learned the english language so I believe there shouldn't be a problem for your child. Well good luck to you and your decision. I only wish I was there already.

Ultimately it is you're decision but think about what is more economical for you. Compare how much would it cost for you to send your furniture to Puerto Rico and how much it would cost to buy yourself new furniture. And as far as selling or renting you're house, you should think about if you desperately need that money now? Because selling is a good option if you want a large lump-sum of money but renting is always a good option when you want to have a stable monthly income source. I am from South Florida, and most people are looking to rent right now because the economy is so tough but if you find a good buyer, selling would be a good option. Just do whatever you feel is best for you.

Yes it is my decision but I'm so back and forth with it because I believe the market is not good and its more for the buyer right now. I truly don't want to lose money on the house. Then I think about renter and how they could end up destroying the house. Its all to scary. Thank you so much for responding.

Your welcome. As far as the renter destroying it, you should ask for a deposit. Here in Miami, when renting almost all places ask for the first months rent & a deposit of the equal amount when first moving in. This way, in case they mess anything up at the end of their rent period you have the money to pay for it, and if they don't you can just return it.

you can also donate your furnishings to Goodwill. you can get a writeoff for your taxes. Try to sell what you can first then donate the rest.
