About "friends"...

Right now, I have 5 pending request to become friends with other mylotters. Though I've been frivolous in the past - without screening these so-called friends, I've learned that maybe I should start screening (i.e. check out their profile, discussions they've started, etc). Today, I requested someone to become my friend. And they haven't approved me. It makes me sad because I added them as a friend because I respect them (of course this is all based on their comments and discussions that they've started). I also believe that I can truly build an actual friendship with this person. Does anyone feel this way about other mylotters? Or am I just a weird-0?

You are not being weird at all. When people request my friendship I also check the profile unless i recognize the name right off. If they are new and I don't know them, I just kind of wait and see for a while. As for this one, you just requested it today. Maybe this person hasn't been on today yet or hasn't noticed it. I'd give it a bit more time before feeling bad about it.
