What is your opinion on sterilization(stirosis) to male cats? Well i have not a clearly opinion as i am a kind of confused!!From one hand i think that sterilization improves cat's health and psychology,if he does not mate. But from the other hand why not to mate? This is an enstict of animals, not just a desire. I do not knowand i am interesting in finding out as i have a male cat, jimmy! If you want i have a voting for this subject in my blog, found on profile.Take a minute to meet jimmy and help me decide!!!

if a cat isn't fixed he will be exposed to many diseases he would not be otherwise exposed because he won't be out fighting. I have 28 cats or is that 27... all the adults are fixed and the 3 kittens will be fixed as soon as they are old enough.

Timus and his car scar - you can see where the injury he got in the car engine
fighting male cats get things like FIV and FLuk, also they can get serious abcesses, I nearly lost a fixed cat who fought with an unfixed tom because of a deep abcess my cat, Timus, was an adult male that I took in, he had been in he engine of a car, turned out he also scraped with a cat with FIV and now he also has FIV

Hi zouna5, It is better for the to be ssterilised as it is good for the cat and for the female, but you know the still have their urges, my tom cat is always trying it on with my female cat allthough they have both been done, it is the best thing for the cat and I think humans should take a leaf out of the cats book and get themselves done as well, too many people in this world. I have a 10 year old male cat. I thought it was against nature to sterilize him. So I never did it. Results... The cat has been fighting with every male cat he could find for 10 years. This has cause me a lot of stress... Plus a lot of vetenary bills. I moved to the bush... and thought that would be the end of it. Not so... He went to look for the feral cats. Then he bought a feral female home. Had 5 kittens with her... who then had another 7. So now I have 10 cats. Luckily... 4 have disappear in the bush... or I would have 14. And this is not over by a long shoot. Do I need to say more?

Well... the other thing they do when they are in heat... is to spray a lot... and it stinks to high heaven. And during that period, their urine has the same smell. I am told that they don't have that nasty smell once they are sterelize. The other thing is that if your cat is still a kitten... you will find as he grows up that he will be pestering you to be let outside when he is on heat. Since I have my 10 cats... I have discovered that males are much higher maintenance than females. They are constantly demanding your attention... while females don't near as much.

Just be cautious. Neutering does increase urinary infects for male cats. Be sure to feed him canned food part of the time and lots of water. Crystals can form which prevent them from using the restroom. I have been through this and it is a hard condition to work through. I have worked with several vets. Some of them will admit this problem and some of them will totally deny it. But as long as you make sure he gets plenty of moisture in is system then he will be fine. And as for the spraying IT IS HORRIBLE!!!! So yes I am in favour of neutering I just wanted to warn you of any risks.

well..i've had 11 males out of 13 cats, all were neutered.. and i can say they seemed much calmer, weren't as liable to fight with the others, and seemed to live much longer than if they always had the mating instinct going. if you have no intention of breeding,i would say have him done.

these guys were indoor cats too.when you have more than one living together, they'll still be territorial sometimes. i did have an exception though, one never fought or sprayed,he was just a good kitty. his brother on the other side, was a handful LOL

Neutering of male cats helps to cut down on the number of strays. Most important, though, is that it diminishes the urge to fight other males. Usually, a neutered male is quite content to stay inside with his humans. Our last two cats were neutered when they were still young and would not go outside even if the door was left open.

Please get Jimmy neutered before he gets in the habit of "catting around". He'll never know the difference and will be a much more contented pet.

Please neauter your cat!! It is much, much healthier for them and there is absolutely no need for them to reproduce. Male cats who are unneautered will get more diseases (ask a vet), and they will spray which is unpleasant. And there is noooo need to them to mate. The fact that it's an instinct, not a desire should support that. It's not as though they've thought it out and plan to settle down and have kids like people do. And after the procedure they don't have that drive anymore, anyway. And kittens may be cute, but what will you do with them? You can't keep them all, and it's hard to find homes for them. Everyday humane societies have to put cats and dogs to sleep because there are just soo many and there is no way to find homes for them all and they don't have the money to keep them all. It's really the best, most responsible choice to neuter your pet. There are only benefits, no downsides.

You neuter male cats to reduce aggression and wandering. You want to slow down the mating of cats and dogs because so many of them are homeless and have to be euthanized. There are not enough people in the world to take care of all the kittens and puppies that non neutered cats and dogs produce.

I understand your point! There is no way to let kittys homeless.I love animals and think of their needs. This is why i search a lot before deciding! If i have the opportunity to take a female cat in my home for mating with jimmy, why not to do it?The only problem i have is how often will then jimmy want to mate??!!!

all the male cats i have had were sterilized. if you dont they can make babies and there are already enough cats that need home and plus they spray when they are not.

It's much better to get a male cat fixed than not...I saw in one of your other responses how you know someone with an unfixed female cat and the idea of his"doing his thing" so she can have kittens...really bad move there. There are so many unwanted pets in the world and shelters are overflowing with pets that are eventually put down (euthanized)--even in so-called no-kill shelters. Rather than bring in more kittens in the world if people want one they should adopt from a shelter One very good prime reason though to get a male cat fixed...the spraying. Unfixed male cats will spray their strong urine all over the place to mark their territory and can really stink up a place in no time PS--saw your blog and had fun playing that kitty game...LOL
