Was she a Ghost or a Childhood Imaginary Playmate ?

When I was somewhere between 5 and 8yrs old. I had this friend in the basement that no one else could see. Her name was Isabella and she was in a wheelchair. The problem is I really don't know if she was a ghost or imagination. I can remember distinctly her helping me get my bike around the corner of the basement stairs so I could take it outside. I wasn't big enough to manage it in a tight space so she would pick up the back wheel and put it on the stairs as I maneuvered the front. I would then continue straight up the stairs, through the house and out the door. I also learned math, reading and writing from her. She would correct my papers with a red pencil. I remember once my ball got stuck on top of an old refrigerator in the basement and she let me stand on her wheelchair to reach it. No one in my family even remembers me talking about Isabella. I always thought she was a ghost... but I also remember seeing some movie in the early 60's about a woman in a wheelchair that was run over intentionally by her husband (I think) and then her wheelchair traveled down the hallway by itself toward their apartment. So that is what makes me think it may have been my imagination...however I am not convinced. Is there any way you know of that could help me figure this out? Thanks in advance and Blessed Be, Mari aka Forest Moon

Without investigating as it was occurring it will now be pretty hard to tell, however I have a couple theories I would try to approach it with. 1) The "imaginary friend" phenomenon is tied to angelic theory. A helper spirit, quite different from a ghost, that takes on an appearance of the viewer's subconcious choice. Your imagination could have made you see Isabella in a wheelchair because of the story you saw. 2) Latent PK ability in you was the cause of the physical interactions you describe and your mind created your vision of the wheelchaired girl (again with help from the story) to make it seem more normal. I know it sounds weird that a mind would cover up psychic ability with another paranormal possibilty but we have been conditioned as a society to let kids have their imaginery friends and ghosts are still even more palatable to most people than PK abilities (for religious reasons, I think). I would start by investigating the house you were in at the time, your history and your family's history (especially any photos from that age range) and a latent PK test.

Well the apartments we live in are now public housing so I can't really find out much there. I have questioned my family for years and no one knows of any Isabella. She was an older woman with long black hair with grey mixed in. I have checked all the pictures we have from when we lived there and haven't found anything in them...lol I just find it hard to believe it was my imagination because of her lifting the back end of my bike up around the corner of the stairs and letting me stand on the wheelchair to reach the top of the refrigerator... etc. I like the PK test idea, I will have to check on that. Thanks for your help. Mari

The childhood mind is very creative. I know that as a child i would think that i could see my imaginary friends even though they did not exist. It's interesting that as a child are minds are open to seeing things. Then as we grow up our minds are changed by our society and we no longer see them. I think that's really cool that you had a friend Isabella. It's kind of scary that only you were able to do things with her and maybe she really did exist. Maybe you were the only one who was able to see her because your mind was not closed off like the minds of your parents and family.

The more I think about it the less I seem to be able to figure out... lol I do remember that she was not there all the time. I only remember her being there when I needed help with something. I also recently remember she didn't talk, I would hear her words in my head.. that is probably why I don't remember the sound of her voice.?? Blessed be, Mari

I honestly have no idea. I think you can go with your instincts on this one. It could have been a ghost since you say she did help you when you were trying to move your bike. An imaginary person could not do that.

I think that you may have actually been seeing a spiritual being. Evil sprits are there to cause harm, Good spirits are there to protect you. Whether you actually seen her or it was in your dream someone named isabella was probably reaching out to you to protect you. Sometimes God places these people over us because there is something going on in the house that we don't want to see. If you want to know more about what I'm talking I started a discussion about my experience as well and maybe you can understand more. Thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one this happens too.
