Politics as usual: Palin asked to take one for the team?

Sure it is a bit of conspiracy theory, but what fun is politics without trying to find everyone's motives? Does anybody believe the timing of Palin's announcement comes at too convenient a time? Did the Republican Party help set this up to distract from other major issues facing the party? The bad press from South Carolina and negative publicity from fighting against "popular" enviromental and health care reforms have been hurting the Grand Ol' Party, already on the rocks from infighting and election upsets. It was perfect timing for a high profile story to steal the front pages with a positive story about Palin "not wanting to waste taxpayers money" while she determines her next step. It gives the Republican base a nice "warm fuzzy" moment while distracting from all the rest. Given the set-up that she has already been "put upon" by the "nasty liberal media", the Republicans can spin any attacks on her strange decision as just more bashing. I can't believe her decision is having a good reception in Middle America, where people will just see this as quitting on a promise to her state, but if the RNC nudged her toward this decision, they could have offered support to get her back on track for the White House in 2012. This would also explain the few Republican campaign managers who have applauded her move when every other campaign "expert" has been either in shock or completely bashing it. Bet there's no paper trail either. Guess we'll never know for sure. Oh yeah, maybe her next memoires!

I love the fact that the elites are afraid of her, thats why she's my choice for prez some day, anyway I think she's gonna eventually ditch the republicans since they're nothing more then moderate puppets for Pelosi and make a future run as an independent, I'm thinking this country is getting real close to saying the hell with the 2 parties and she knows that especially since her own pelosi republicans hate her anyway.

I also think she will eventually ditch the republican party. I for one am getting tried of all the fighting between the 2 parties it seem not much is getting done. everything is done on party line which has not work for many years and it would be nice if the 2 parties would finally figure that out and start working together to solve the problems.

I would think she does want to spend time with her family and she does have a grandson now. That makes a difference and she may decide to run in future. I also think that the negative press by the Obamamites hero worshipers had something to do with it. Maybe those who supported Obama have to experience how life would be really like under him and suffer the high taxes, long lineups at the pump, not being able to afford cheat alternative energy, not being able to keep the computer on as long for mylotting, bumping into things in the dark because they cannot afford to keep on the lights, freezing in winter, sweltering in summer. But I do think the Republicans need a true strong candidate who can stand against Obama and with Sarah gone, it is a loss.

Funny. Paranoid, but funny. If anything, it was the criticism from her own party she is probably fed up with. As a politician, I'm sure she expected it from the blind Obama-ites.

Hmmm...now THAT'S interesting! I'm usually not much of a conspiracy theorist but this sudden announcement was just so unexpected and strange I can't help but think there's something more than what meets the eye! Some people are claiming it's so "smart" of Sarah, which I find rather amusing and some seem to really think she's done with politics for good, which I find almost impossible to believe. She may be done as far as winning anything but I don't think it will be by her choice. I'm really looking forward to all the political shows tomorrow and hope all the regular hosts and panelists will be back from their holiday celebrations. Annie

She is a grandma now and is still facing attacks by the MSM on a regular basis. If I was her I probably would do the same thing. I'd be tired of all the negative attention and realize the job is causing me to miss out on a lot of good family time. Babies grow up too fast and leave home. Perhaps some political good will come of this in helping her lieutenant governor get a leg up in the next election if he runs.

I would have appreciated that if she said that was her only reason. Every parent can understand that sentiment. Everything else she said was just unnecessary and makes average people look at her with suspicion.

I was listening the Charles Krauthammer on Fox News, and he thinks, short term, it was a mistake. He thinks 2012 is too soon for Palin to try for the Presidency. A few years down the road would be better because she'll have more time to learn, this issue won't be so big an issue, and she'll still be young enough. I would like to think the reason she is quitting as Governor is the reason she gave, but if she continues to go around the country making speeches, she's going to continue to have the naysayers on her back. To them, she is a threat.
